Rate my chances for top tier schools?

Wow, both your stats and ECs are quite enviable! I think you should be fine for all of them, especially the UCs. (But you never know with HYPS, as admissions are pretty much a crapshoot…)

Your essays should also be very strong – I read your Tumblr and think you post very insightful things and have a great style of writing! At the risk of sounding very creepy, I’ve “followed” you on there. Hope you don’t mind!

I don’t mind at all! I did spend almost 15 minutes trying to find out who you were though (even creepier?) because I assumed it would be one of my friends. Your writing is so elegant, poetic even. Also, so much more colorful than mine!

If Yale is high on your list, you should apply there EA. I’m actually from New Haven and know that applying to Yale EA gives you a slight boost. On the other hand, Yale’s EA option is similar to Stanford’s in that it disallows you from applying EA or ED (round 1) anywhere else until you get a reply. (I think they call it “restrictive EA”.) Also, you may be interested to know that Yale has an outstanding rapport with the Asian world. Hu Jintao, the president of China, even visited Yale a few years ago. Plus, there’s a pretty large Asian community in New Haven. Good luck with admissions!

Thanks for the advice! I’ve actually decided to not apply EA to Stanford or Yale for that matter. The EA competition is way too crazy for someone of average stats like myself. I think I’ll just try my luck with regular!

Out of curiosity, how does being a Siemens semifinalist change my chances?

Also, if there are any CCers who are in Penn’s M&T program or are familiar with it, it’d be great if you could tell me how difficult admissions is relative to other Ivy’s.

M&T is extremely difficult to get into as it only accepts ~40-60 kids each year

I would imagine so. If there are any M&T alum or students reading this thread, it’d be very helpful if you could post your stats! It’d also be great if someone could re-chance me taking into account Siemens recognition.

bumpity bump
