You’re asking for us to evaluate a 4 year high school plan and you don’t even know what you will take in 8th grade yet? What grade are you in? What are you interested in? It’s hard to evaluate a program when we don’t know what kind of student you are and what your educational goals are. I’m not even sure what you are asking.
It is not usual for students to take the AP English classes before junior year.
Yeah, what’s up with that? And definitely pick a language soon. From my completely unbiased perspective, go with German. (totally biased)
Something I’ve seen people recommend on here a lot is to take AB, then BC, in order to spread out calculus, a class many struggle with.
And IMO it’s totally worth it to take Honors Geometry. My class is super fun, and it’s only 3 or 4 extra homework problems a night.
Something that sticks out to me is your English plan. Do kids normally take high school English classes starting in seventh grade in your district? AP Lang and Lit, as others have said, are generally taken by upperclassmen. What do you plan to take when you’re a junior and senior? You should take something, to at least practice your writing skills. I could see being out of practice hurting your SAT scores.
Do you know what languages are offered at your school? If you are planning everything else, I’d look into that. Do you take one at your current school?
Also, it seems that you are aiming to take every AP possible. Its important to be realistic. I’d recommend focusing on taking AP classes in subjects you excel in, and plan to major in, to avoid being swamped by an over the top workload.
@awesomepolyglot That may be the case for your school, but the difference between honors and standard math classes at mine is pretty significant. However, if OP is planning on taking AP math classes, then they should be able to handle honors regardless.
Ok, if you don’t even know if you will qualify for 8th grade honors English you definitely shouldn’t be planning AP in 9th grade. Also, if possible, start your foreign language ASAP. This is the one thing where there is no question that earlier is better. It’s not a bad idea to browse the high school catalog and learn about the possibilities, especially if you have the option of starting some foreign languages but not others while in middle school, but you really don’t need a detailed plan in, what, 6th? 7th grade? The exact schedule you will take is going to depend on how your interests develop (are you STEMy, artsy, etc) as well as how strong a student you are in different subjects. Some students are fine taking all possible core APs. Others would crash and burn.
At most middle schools, if you take the most advanced level core classes that you can handle, really the only decisions you need to make that will impact your high school schedule are which foreign language you start, if any, and which arts electives you take (eg if you want to be in high school band, you’d better sign up for middle school band). So think about that and don’t worry about a detailed 4 year plan until you see how 8th grade is going and what levels your teachers are recommending for you.
