As there've been a flood a new prospective students, I think we need a topic that rates the dorms based on multiple factors so students with different priorities can choose for themselves.

So any students who'd like to rate their dorms, please do! We high school seniors need as much help as we can! And if you have any helpful links, please post them as well.

^ quiet. food not too great, sometimes horrible. great for science/engineer people cuz buildings are nearby (pimentel, evans, all that jazz). you’re pretty much on campus. cost is definitely on the expensive side and maybe worth 1 year to live in and that’s it. if you live near enough, you can listen to bands play in the greek. hehe

it doesn’t sound so different from the other units…

"Unit 1: 1426 students in 4 high rise halls and 2 mini suite buildings, 31 staff 4 residence hall towers with co-ed and single gender floors, single, double and triple rooms and a few triple rooms in suites, and 2 mini-suite buildings .

Unit 2: 1406 students in 6 high rise halls, 31 staff 4 residence hall towers with co-ed and single gender floors, single, double and triple rooms, and a few triple rooms in suites, 1 mini-suite building with double and triple occupancy bedrooms, 1 apartment building which houses upper-division students.

Unit 3: 1224 students in 4 high rise halls, 1 mid rise building, 27 staff co-ed and single gender floors, single, double and triple residence hall rooms and a few triple rooms in suites."

Dont listen to the kids in the units, Clark Kerr is by far the best. It is the most social because a lot of weird kids want to be really close to campus, but social at Berkeley still means everyone does work. Theres nice study lounges and a computer center in building 1. It has a lot of open outside space to hang out and play frisbee, whatever. We have a barbeque that students can use. Tennis courts, basketball, volleyball, skate park, track on top of the hill, pretty good food, lots of places to explore if you go up on the hill. Best of all its sheltered from downtown/Telegraph area. Buildings are only three stories and the rooms are huge. Im in a triple which has all three beds on the floor and a good amount of space- corner rooms are just huge. In the units you have a bunk bed and a lofted bed with two desks under it, and they somehow fit a third desk in there too. The only negative is if you want to go to walgreens or something its a 15-20 minute walk (if you walk slow) but that doesnt matter cuz your on campus all week. The 7 bus comes right to the driveway and the 51 is 3 blocks down. Oh yea and your not as tempted to spend a lot of money at restaurants (which i would definitely do in the units) because its a walk and the dc is good.

I didnt have clark kerr in any of my top choices, in fact i requested a unit triple over ckc. that would have sucked, clark kerr is bomb.

About construction: Clark Kerr is under construction right now too. They sent me this email that made it seem like a big deal but its not. All it means is you get new rooms next year and the older ones that we live in now will be under construction

By the way, foothill is only good if you dont like social interaction. Im an engineer and do great in ckc.

Well, I currently live in Unit 3 and I like it just because it’s so close to campus. I’m living there again next year because I know I’ll be walking back late at night and it’s a relatively safe walk back to Unit 3.
Other than that, Unit 3 really is one of the older looking dorms. I was really jealous of my friends who lived in Unit 2 because the rooms and floors looked sooo nice. But I’d rather be really close to campus. And it’s the closest unit to the RSF!
Also, Unit 3 has bear market and cafe 3 so you’re always close enough to get food or use your meal points. It’s also near telegraph so you have lots of options to choose for food. Good for my binge days.
I’ve visit my friend at Clark Kerr and I can’t really say that I like it. Her building seemed really old and felt a bit unwelcoming. Sure, the rooms are bigger but the atmosphere just seemed a bit cold. She also told me about all the drunk people at night. Well, that’s just my take on it. It’s definitely a long walk. As for foothill, I have heard from many people that it is kind of not social there. People get along with others in their suites but I guess it’s harder to meet entire floors and such. I don’t know.
Choose unit 3! :D

I hate unit 3. It’s ugly. Rumor is it has asbestos ceilings. It’s just so ugly. Unit 1 is two blocks from campus too (though a bit farther from the RSF/Dwinelle) with much nicer buildings and a nice computer center. Far superior.

RSF stands for recreational sports facility. It’s basically the gym. Some of my friends in Unit 1 are too lazy to walk the extra blocks to get to the gym so being close is definitely motivation to go work out. Prevent the freshmen 15! ;]
Yeah, unit 3 is close to a lot of places. Though I do agree that it really is ugly compared to Unit 1 and 2, it isn’t THAT bad. I guess it’s really up to your own personal preferences. Since proximity is important to me, I’ll stick with Unit 3. It’s also convenient since you have the dining commons and bear market in the center of all the buildings.
