Hey guys!

What are your thoughts on the Williston Northampton School? It's something my little brother is looking at because he enjoys it's atmosphere. Is it a really good or elite school? Where does it rank and is it competitive?

What are your thoughts on the Williston Northampton School? It's something my little brother is looking at because he enjoys it's atmosphere. Is it a really good or elite school? Where does it rank and is it competitive?

I liked Williston when we visited. My son ended up choosing another school, but would have been comfortable and academically engaged at Williston. He was very positive about going there if that ended up being his only option. In truth, it was low on our final list of preferences, but that speaks mainly to what we liked about other schools and does not reflect anything specifically negative about WIlliston. I am not sure what kind of ranking you are looking for, but they have good core academics that could challenge most students at the appropriate level. It is fairly competitive to get into, but not as hard as some others. Within the school, I did not get the sense that it is overly competitive or cutthroat. The community seemed very friendly and supportive. It is not as “elite” as some other schools, and the academics may not be as broad or deep, and certainly not as high pressure as some schools, but it is a great school.

Key here is that your brother likes the atmosphere. If he and your parents feel he will be academically engaged and challenged, then most of the key pieces are already answered in the positive.
