Sullivan's new bestselling book about rats in NYC (which is titled, incidentally, Rats) is a good source if you need some official confirmation of what I see on a regular basis.

Perhaps I'm getting the wrong impression. I see a guy walking down Fifth Ave at 2 AM up to his ankles in rats. Correct me if your "rats scurry all around my feet" doesn't imply that.

Not 5th Ave. so much. Farther downtown.

I live in NJ, go up to NY all the time to visit family, and I've never seen a rat scurrying on the street. And I'm talking about Queens here. Not the Upper West Side or something.

Some parts of Queens have 'em, some don't. I'm referring more to lower Manhattan, though. Well, that and Prospect Park.

I hate rats. After a year of college at Hopkins I've only ever seen one, and it was off campus.
