I had Professor Ravetch for 1B. His class is actually not that difficult as long as you do what you’re supposed to do. Read the textbook before lecture. Do all the assigned homework on time. Go to office hours. He requires you to know the idea behind the solutions to the problems, so that you can apply it.

If you think you’ll be fine without doing these, trust me, you won’t. I’ve gotten A’s without reading the textbook for most of my econ classes, but reading the textbook before lecture and doing homework on time made a huge difference. As an example, I got a 71 on the first midterm, then decided to change my study habits, got a 98 on the second one. After that I got kind of lazy and stopped keeping up… ended up with 81 on the final and B+ in the class.

Ravetch is tough and makes you work for your grade, but I’m glad I took him. Definitely gonna take him for 120A and B. Also, if you’re interested in going into accounting, 9 out of 10 recruiters will ask you if you’re taking a class with Ravetch, and it’s a good conversation starter for interviews or networking events.

His tests aren’t ridiculously difficult. Just watch out for mistakes and analyze the problem carefully. Just because the problem looks familiar doesn’t mean it’s the same. In order to get an A, you need to be better than everyone else… doesn’t matter if everyone does well on the test. He curves at C+ range.
