I think it means 4.0 vs. 5.0. Some schools don't even report unweighted GPA... I know mine doesn't. I suppose you could assume that they calculated the UW GPA and posted the average? I doubt it though, because I'm sure it would be much lower... a 3.88 UW GPA in my school would really be all A's with a few A-'s, or straight A's and two or three B+'s. Plus most schools try to boost their stats to look better - I mean, that's why they use the top SAT scores of each section... so I still think it's weighted.

Here's the story so far (I'm adding my word to the end):
When there was a flower that had bloomed. Its petals opened spontaneously, revealing a person who actually was vampirically drinking blood that poisoned the woman, which exposed a...

Hm... that doesn't make much sense LOL

i dont know... i think that 3.83 is uw, cuz it has that statsitic in naviance also, and naviance goes by uw... but yea, i wish it was weighted though :(.... my uw gpa is very low also, 3.2, while my weight is a 3.8... everytime i see that 3.83, i get discouraged that i wont get in.... but i just have to remind my self that it's the average, and so half of the girls accepted had lower gpas.... haha

I'm trying not to think about my statistics. I DID however, mark six possible days for Barnard decisions in my agenda...which was probably a really bad idea.

I also have taken to going to the movies all the time. I saw Milk today and plan to spend much of next weekend seeing The Reader, Frost/Nixon, Doubt...and Coraline because I just really want to see it.

OKAY CONTINUING WITH THE STORY THAT MAKES MUCH SENSE:
weakness

Doubt and Frost/Nixon are AMAZING. Haven't seen The Reader yet, need to...

I also don't think that average is a very accurate measure (according to what I have learned so far in AP Stats). The median is much more accurate of the "middle" because it takes out the outliers.

Actually I'd prefer to see a box plot. LOL.

^ You forgot a word! :(

Story:
. (end that sentence, lol!) The weakness

mp153- my ap eng. lit & comp. teacher was raving about Milk, I definetly want to go see it. I went to go see NOTORIOUS, complete opposite of the movie genre you have just listed (lol) hahaha. I live for rap, but i don't support the parts of rap that sexually exploit women.

soo I had to put the story together soo I can at least put a word that makes sense:

When there was a flower that had bloomed. Its petals opened spontaneously, revealing a person who actually was vampirically drinking blood that poisoned the woman, which exposed a weakness "for"- my word

p.s. it really doesn't make sense actually...hmmm...any suggestions on how this could be fixed ladies? I mean I could use my superpowers and re-organize the sentence lol but I'm out of fuel.(lol)

Wait, no, mine was ending the run-on and starting a new sentence.

So wait it should be:
When there was a flower that had bloomed. Its petals opened spontaneously, revealing a person who actually was vampirically drinking blood that poisoned the woman, which exposed a weakness. The weakness...

How about (new, fixed version):
There was a flower that had bloomed. Then its petals opened spontaneously, revealing a person who was actually vampirically drinking blood that poisoned the woman. However there was a weakness exposed, which...

IDK, is that too much editing? Any other suggestions?

neethus1- Sorry, I immediately assumed you were adding a word. silly me! My bad. But I'll add a word, it's not that bad, it still sounds weird, but way better then before (lol)

(had to add two words, just sounds good, I think (?)

dramatically altered

superwoman- YES GO SEE MILK! It was so good! I was going to see Notorious with my friends a couple of weeks ago, but I was sick and wasn't that rap, so I wasn't that upset. I need to finish all the Oscar movies before the awards, though. I'm planning my weekend accordingly because I'm so behind.

I could edit it even more, but I am tired of editing because my staff writers are driving me insane right now (I'm the head copy editor of my yearbook staff and even though I try to share some stuff with my assistants, it doesn't work because our adviser only trusts me).

her

Yea, I want to see it too, my teacher is claiming they will "up" the prices after the awards, especially the movies that actually win the nominations. She probably is right, so I should go see Milk. I mean as for Notorious, you didn't really miss much, we all know the ending anyway (lol).

genome (I was going to put life, but that's a little obvious, had to throw something random)

ew...this story...wow.

". This weakness"

I love this board. I was about to agree that "vampirically" isn't a word, but then I found: vampirical - definition of vampirical by the Free Online Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia. , and if "vampirical" is a word, wouldn't it stand to reason that "vampirically" is a word? XD Of course, my source is only one step above wikipedia...

Lmao, I'm sure vampirical is a word - I just looked up vampirically.

vampirical definition | Dictionary.com
vampirically definition | Dictionary.com

So, yep.

o darn. hehe. It just looks so weird, I think it's because sometimes we'll write words and they sound and look weird, but there spelled right. It happens to me all the time (lol). I totally do love this thread! Even if we don't all go to Barnard we'll still be the anxiety crew lol, that clung onto each other's posts in the midst of our own daily pressures! Ugh, high school, I can't believe four years have already gone by!

mutated (sounds repetitive but couldn't think of anything else, maybe its bc I'm studying for my AP Bio exam on viral diseases & mutations..hehe) :)

Yeah that happens to me in Spanish ALL the time, lol. I just make up words :P Stupid false cognates.

This weakness was mutated? lol I think you meant the lady was mutated...

hahaha well did anyone see he's just not that into you? not exactly oscar nominated buuuut really cute

"by"

Ah, the power of words...it's so heartwarming to read! But I'm a dork, haha.

superwoman, you made such a beautiful statement. Wherever we go, we'll all be benefited by having this thread as a coping skill ;) Yaaaay us!

For our story to make sense, I think it would be better if we just copied the story and then added our word to it so there's context.

There was a flower that had bloomed. Then its petals opened spontaneously, revealing a person who was actually vampirically drinking blood that poisoned the woman. However there was a weakness exposed, which dramatically altered her genome. This weakness was mutated by a

Yes, "The Anxiety Crew". Perfect.

Haha, in our Spanish class, we just fake words that sound like they should work and the teacher never notices. I've aced tests with my mad b.s.ing skills. XD

Mmm...I think we killed the story, guys.

I find that the acceptance rate for the class of '12 was 28.5%.. that's a little lower than I expected (thought it would be at least 30%). Does anyone know how many applications Barnard received for the class of '13? Just wondering.. @.@

nope, but they did report that early apps were up 8% from last year
