RD 2013 Anxiety Thread

Congratulations guys--I mean, gals :)

My school is doing SO well with acceptances so far. Ugh - I just really hope I get my fair share :p, or I'll feel dumb while everyone else is celebrating!

congratulations!! a lot of unis have already started replying. anyone apply to kenyon?

hello! I had my interview today. I honestly am not sure about how I did at all. I guess I will tell you all about it in here.

So basically, I shed a few drops of tear because I became too emotional while I was telling her about myself. So basically, I was an abandoned at birth in China. I explained how I realized that I was adopted (my parents are chinese as well) and how I never knew until my 17th birthday because my parents treat me so well that I've never doubted that I wasn't their's. Anyhow, my parents aren't educated nor rich, but they know how to raise me happily by being supportive blah blah blah so I started it with that and I shed a few tears because yeah. anyways, I think it's bad that I shed tears because she may think that i was nervous or something.

anyhow, I think I did okay in most of the questions she asked me. However, I think I failed to answer 2 specific questions well.

1) how would your bestfriend describe you?
I said outgoing, hyper and sometimes impulsive (yes I was being brutally honest)
2) how would a stranger describe you?
quite, maybe shy, and most strangers refer to me as the very very skinny asian girl

so yeah, I described myself wayyyy too negatively. :( I even told her that I just wanted to be really honest. I didn't want to lie. I wouldn't risk describing myself with the best words.

So what do you guys think? She asked me a lot of questions about family support, which I emotionally get a lot of but not necessarily physically since they were always busy working when I was young. I was called for an interview because I applied to Heop, a program for ppl with lower income and stuff. HEOP students get a LOT of financial and academic support. However, I'm worried at the fact that HEOP may actually be looking for students who never got enough support at home. I, on the other hand, said my parents are extremely supportive. I may be thinking too much but I feel this way because she asked me more than 2 questions about family support.
so what do you guys think? hah I'm wondering who would actually read this..hahhaa it's so long!

Congrats! :)

Same here--we've already got two in Yale and a few (not exactly sure how many) in Harvard. Also, a pretty good friend of mine got in ED to Columbia (and has been making relentless Barnard jokes ever since :) ). But really, I don't care which college, I don't care which decision, I really, REALLY, want to know something definite, now.

Haha, I read it. :)

I think you'll be fine. Honesty is almost always the best way to go. Is your going to Barnard contingent on getting into HEOP?

quiet* I told my mom about the "quiet" and "shy" part. She's glad that I was honest though :(

There are 85 interviews and only 24 seats for HEOP. If I don't get into heop, my app gets sent back to regular admissions office for another review. But honestly, the chances of being accepted through reg. admission after rejection from HEOP is VERY slim cus by then they would already have made/sent out most of their decisions and barely any seats left. If there are seats, they will be super competitive!

Ah, I see. Good luck!

spanx<3 :)

I got into NYU.
But i would definitely pick Barnard over NYU in a nano-second!!
^_^

same. i got into nyu too, but would also pick barnard over nyu for sure (if i get in, of course).

cantochickk, it sounds to me like you did very well in your interview. Not much longer to wait to see the outcome, but I think you did your best and were honest and that's all you can do, right?

And to everyone else, it sounds like you all have excellent options with all the wonderful acceptances you have already posted. Hope that eases some of the stress for you in waiting. Which, by the way, you won't have to do for much longer! I will be very excited to see you all post about your results in a week or two!!!

I also got in to NYU, but my parents know that if I get into Barnard, we're sending the deposit the next day (which is why I still don't understand why they didn't let me apply ED. Maybe they were just scared that I'd change my mind).

cantochick, I've been wondering...what exactly IS HOEP? I've seen it mentioned a lot of places and never really understood what it was besides a program for NY residents.

thanks zoreo09! good luck, I'm glad we have a new prospective Barnard-er...hmm, we need to come up with a new name for Barnard girls or wanna-be Barnard girls anyhow lol. Any suggestions?

I have Barnard-er, a little weird but hey? lol

o and my school's already gotten alot of acceptances as well, I think almost 20 were accepted to NEU like me all getting scholarship money, a couple were waitlisted and one was rejected/in a class of 150. The kid that's salutorian (he's tied with another girl/probably have our first two salutorian's this year), he got into NYU, UPenn, and Babson, with money. Other then that everyone else is still waiting anxiously like US! = /

firefly, Harvard decisions are out?

At my school, almost everyone goes to UF, FSU, or UCF, but we've had a really successful past few years with admissions. My sister's year (HS '07), we had one at almost every Ivy. I think the only one missing out was Dartmouth. And this year, we already have two in at MIT. We'll see who else gets in where.

I went shopping for my prom dress today (and bought an absolutely GORGEOUS one!) and spent the entire day anxious because I heard a certain school mailed a few days ago (even though I've heard of no one getting decisions). I had a letter from NYU, one from an NCF alumni, and a brochure from Pitzer, where I did not even apply. FML.

We have to get my prom dress altered next Saturday and I made my sister and mother agree that we could wait until I got my mail. If I get my Barnard decision then, I'll need that shopping trip either way.

neethu--No, they're not, that's why I said I don't know exactly how many. There are a few students from my school who Harvard recruited because of athletics or other special circumstances (along with the mandatory 4.0+s and 2400 SATs and whatnot). Though that obviously doesn't equate to a binding admission, it's pretty clear that at least one or two of them will get in.

^ aha, I see :)

same with my school. quite a few people have gotten into the ivies and stanford for ed/a. its quite competitive.

Just got home from a big family party where everyone wanted to know where I was going for college.

YIKES!
