You guys have terrible sisters! Mine were always supportive about colleges (maybe not so much about other things though haha). My twin kept saying I would get in and I kept getting mad at her for doing so in case she would reverse-jinx it or something! Haha. Now I feel mean.

mp153 Yes, my username is definitely a reference to Grey Gardens! You dont know how happy I am that you knew that!

What if you have straight As on your midyear report but not straight As in the past? Im taking more AP classes than I have in the past but somehow got really good grades. I hope that it helps me because my Jr. year grades are good but not amazing

Hey, ladies, I know it's a stressful time, but hang in there and keep using this forum to vent to each other along with focusing as much as possible on the fun things that must be going on during the very last part of your Senior year of HS!

One caution, though (Hey, I am a mom...I gotta do it!) about the Facebook group:

College admissions are becoming more and more attuned, I think, to information available on sites such as Facebook, and I would not be surprised at all to learn that this Facebook group would be of interest to them. So just consider any info you post there as public and viewable by Barnard adcoms. And you know the usual cautions about pics, yada...yada...yada....

Best to you all!! I look forward to hearing in less than three months that you are all indeed future "strong, beautiful Barnard women!"

Also, a bit more "family" perspective on attending an "elite" college like Barnard vs a state flagship school:

My d is the youngest in our family and her two older brothers and one sis-in-law attended our state school, which is a very good one. D's academic and extracurricular focus, though, was just not compatible with our state's school (she wanted dance and strong academics). She did look at attending there (and was admitted), but it just did not fit her needs (which was pretty painful since her education would have been fully funded at our state school....).

Her brothers have been very, very supportive of her decision, though they have NOT liked her being so far away. We are a pretty close family, and we miss her! So I think part of what some of you are experiencing may indeed be your siblings' attempts to deal with the fact that you are making a big decision to go off the "beaten path" to school. It will work out, though!

etched- yea it wasn't even her first choice; her mother wanted her to apply ED but after she went to see it last week over vacation she fell in love with it (lol) I told her she would love it! But now she's so excited & i hope I can go along with her : )

Sigh, my midyear report is going to be all B's except for a 101% in Latin, it looks like. I am so frustrated with my classes this year. I've never had problems with school before >< They're going to think I either slacked or can't handle AP's.

Ah, this makes me feel better. I thought that you all would have perfect grades and that I had such a disadvantage for getting some Bs.

I am hoping that we'll be fine, amartin12. But so far I haven't seen many admitting to Bs.

amartin12- o please! I've been living the life of a B+ student ever since I started taking AP's last year.

&

ikatfabric- it still looks good on your transcript that your taking competitive classes, Bs are not the end of the world, it just means you are capable of pulling off an A with just a little more understanding of the material! (that's the way I see it)

I wish you guys luck! I think I'll be lucky to make Honor Roll in the Midyear Report (lol)..there's always that one teacher that keeps me off of it! GRR..AP Biology (my nightmare) Good Luck ladies! & hope you guys get in Barnard : )

I'm so happy! I talked to my teacher and she's letting me makeup the work by doing stuff in class. Which means I should have an A in that class on my midyear report. I'm going to study really hard for my macroeconomics (and possibly lit) final, so I can get an A semester. I think I'll be mostly fine, though. We'll see.

I have A's in all my APs and a C in my college algebra course. I'm flipping out because i also got a C last year in math but im retaking that. Im not sure how they will perceive that

In regards to my transcripts, it's kind of pathetic that I have three Cs from regular level math. Grrr math.

But anyway, hopefully what mp said is right, and the midyear report isn't all that important. But yeah, guys, your grades aren't that bad. You'll be fine!

One more thing: Has anyone gotten their tracking password yet? How long does it take for Barnard to send it to you?

^ thats how i am. I have all A's and two C's in regular math yet in advanced math i had an A.I dont know how that works out.

etched, I got my tracking password about a week after I sent my application (but that was ED, so there were fewer applicants, and I sent my app a week or so early), I wouldn't worry for a few more weeks.

Yeah, and if they don't have something that is required (test scores, recs, etc.) they will contact you through email or phone. They stressed to me that they would not make any sort of decision if they didn't have everything that was required.

Have patience! The admissions office is to the wall right now with applications stuff, and the full staff (student assistants and such) is most assuredly not even there yet. So I imagine your info won't be updated online for a while yet. Students are still out for a couple of weeks more...

etched-yea, I sent in my application & everything else on December 13th online. I received an email ten days afterward with my tracking ID..so maybe a ten day waiting period, it shouldn't take that long, but maybe that's because I sent everything in very early! (lol) Good Luck you guys : )

I see. Thanks for the feedback on that.

It's hard being patient, though :/

I'm so worried...midterms next week and my midyear report relies on it! How much do midyear reports matter? Ugh. I just need it to be March/April like...now.

I talked to my guidance counselor yesterday, and he said that my drop from A's to B's shouldn't matter. So if anyone else out there is having the same problem, well, my counselor said it won't kill us. He said that midyear reports are to show that we're taking a tough curriculum throughout our senior years and not bombing it. I have five APs, so, although I've got B's in all of them, I'm doing enough to "stay afloat," as he puts it.

Ughughughughugh. I hope he's right.
