In Minnesota, rec’d Friday. Congrats to all admitted so far! Go to the admitted students page, and you will get some for the directions. There should be something in the letter included in the package about financial aid awards coming out in the next two weeks.
Oh wow, I somehow missed that. Sorry for the confusion.
Forgot to say we’re in VA.
Best of luck, @BillW13!
My D got her acceptance in the mail this weekend. No mention of merit aid. Does that mean she got none or does St. Olaf provide that information in separate mailing? She received $30K from a college with a similar profile, so I’d be surprised that there would be nothing offered from St. Olaf. Does anyone know if they include merit offers along with acceptance letters?
Accepted from Missouri.
Congrats to your D, @SwimMomInTX ! The acceptance letter should say something about fin aid being sent, separately. Also thee should be iinfo abot creating a log on account, to exchange information that way too. Remember that fin aid will be based on your and your D’s assessed ability to pay vs. the COA. Since St Olaf’s COA is a bit lower than some similar schools, the award might be different than the other school you mentioned. Good luck!!
@SwimMomInTX The letter does NOT mention any need based aid, those are being mailed later, but it DID mention the merit aid I received. Unfortunately, I believe if it did not mention anything, that your D did not receive anything, sorry. Remember that every college is different! Congratulations on admission though!
Thanks all, my daughter was excited to receive her acceptance letter! Just FYI to @morningside95 and @becsc18, and anyone else who may be waiting for notification, my daughter’s acceptance letter did say that financial aid notification would be sent in about two weeks, but we were actually wondering about merit aid, which (at most colleges) has little or nothing to do with financial aid. My daughter received a separate letter, which arrived in yesterday’s mail, detailing her merit offer. Her acceptance letter (packet) arrived prior to that, over the weekend. So, it seems that some people may be getting their merit offers in their acceptance letter and some may be separate.
Darn, still nothing.
Thanks so much for the clarification, @becsc18 and @SwimMomInTX. FWIW - My S16 has a swimmer for his freshman roommate at Grinnell this year, and he is a great kid! Sorry my spelling and grammar were so poor, I was trying to type from my 5s iPhone, and it was late at night. Hang in there @BillW13!
Accepted from CA with a $16,000 scholarship
Son got in with 16,000 yearly merit;). He had a 33 ACT and 4.2 weighted. He dropped Band this year to take Intro to Law, so it will be interesting to see how he fits in if that is where he ends up going. Flying up for the 7,8 ASD.
Thanks for letting us know, @BillW13. Seems like you had a long wait for the package! We’ll be there too. Hope to meet you at the parent’s gathering on Friday night in St. Paul.
Are your kids going to be staying overnight on campus?
Yes. We have a college freshman, too, and feel that going to classes, and spending the night, is the best way to determine if the school is a good fit.
Well my son has decided to spend the Friday night on campus so we will not be at the parents meet and greet Friday night as we have a hotel room near the college. Good for him and we get a night on the town;).
@BillW13 Saturday morning the place to be is actually in Dundas, just south of Northfield. Martha’s bakery is open only two days a week. Delicious pastries.
@BillW13 - How did Admitted Student’s weekend go for you and your S!? Was it all he expected. You seemed anxious for the admissions decision, so I hope you all had a great time in cute, tiny Northfield, MN.
As you can see, our S is an Ole, now! He went to the Friday class/Current student/Overnight visit. We are from the general area, so just dropped him off Friday AM, and came back to campus to meet him on Saturday AM, at Boe Chapel. S had a great time, on Friday, and was 90% sold by lunchtime, on Saturday. He spoke with the 2 admissions counselors he met with at the CTCL’s fair and on campus, in 2016, and finally picked out a pricey ST OLAF sweatshirt from the bookstore. I asked him if we were spending $$ to buy him a sweatshirt from a school he had not yet decided to attend. He said he thought was probably his way of “signing on the dotted line.” We went back to the Buntrock Commons, but they had just packed up the Admissions tables, and were gone. One of the reps saw us, and offered to walk us back to the Admissions office, in Thomson Hall, and we completed the deal there! As you could probably see, they are a very family-friendly/inclusive school, and we are very excited for our S! It is not where he thought he’d end up, as he was so set on heading out of state, to the PNW, for school, but he actually found his college home, less than 1 hour away. We promised to pretend he is farther away, and not get any more involved in his college experience than he wants us to be.
Too bad you missed the Friday night Parent Reception at the St Paul Hotel. It is beautiful, vintage hotel, and the food was A-Mazing! The college is known for the qualify of it’s dining hall food. Looking forward to reading your thoughts on the visit!
St. Olaf is on my 2018 D’s list of potentials…can anyone shed light on the significant drop in applications from 2015 to 2016? 2015 shows 7571 applications and 2016 shows 6046 applications. That’s a significant decrease and corresponds with an increase in acceptance rate from 36% in 2016 to 44% in 2016. Source is St. Olaf website where they have a wealth of their institutional data available. Thanks in advance!
