As far as I can tell, you were only notified if you received a special scholarship. They will be sending out notifications (regardless of the result) around the 15th. Good luck to everyone awaiting their decisions, I really hope all of you hear good news!

Also, I was wondering if someone who has visited the campus could describe some of its physical and emotional characteristics and overall impressions of the school and students as I have never visited. It would be especially helpful if someone has visited a class and could tell me about it, such as was it discussion-based, did the teacher welcome questions, etc. Thanks for any information!

Hi, I’m from Jersey. Let me first say that I stayed at St. Olaf and fell in love with the school. I’m applying to basically all of the top liberal arts schools (GPA: 4.6 weighted, ACT: 34 SAT: 2120), but St. Olaf is my number 2. First of all the campus is absolutely gorgeous, beautiful stone buildings, Adirondack chairs all over the lawns, nice fitness facility, amazing dining hall/student center with fireplaces (also in common areas of dorms), gorgeous new science building, great art & music studios. On top of all of this, THE NICEST PEOPLE I have ever met. After spending just an hour with my host and her friends I felt like they were my friends. I know that if I go there next year I will already have 4 or 5 people I know I’ll be able to go to for whatever. They were all so warm and inclusive, just so genuine and down-to-earth, smart but not cocky. I ended up staying up and watching 500 Days of Summer with two girls (neither of which were my host) and their guy friend just like we had been friends for months. Even with this much praise I cannot fully described how incredible it felt to be on campus. Having been someone who has had difficulty finding friends in high school, I felt like at St. Olaf I’d always have someone to be with. Everyone, including the professors, were warm and smiling.
Now for the classes; I sat in on a Psych: Sensation and Perception class and a Bio class (I think mammalian anatomy and physiology). Both professors were very engaging and it was clear that they truly enjoy teaching. The students were also fairly engaged, especially compared to what I saw at a huge lecture hall at Tufts where everyone was on Facebook. The professors were very welcoming when I spoke to them after class. I don’t know if you are interested in the sciences, but if you are, the biology teacher was very informative about research opportunities and encouraging of students to work in the labs.
Overall, my experience was just incredible. After just staying one night, St. Olaf went from barely on my radar to the top of my list.

@Guille19-I am sorry I did not see your original post- yes, it is 13,000 with a $500 visit stipend.

@rapamom-Thank you so much for the information! I am so excited to visit in April, it truly sounds like a great fit for me. Unfortunately, even with the scholarship it will be too expensive without enough financial aid. Does anybody know when they send out financial aid awards? I really need to have all of the cost information so I can work on getting my parents to let me go 20+ hours away for school next year!!

@mominwis- I agree! I asked because of the lack of recent visit reports, more would be very helpful. I will create one after my April visit!

To everyone awaiting decisions: I have never received an email. I did receive a letter in the mail, and a few days after my admissions counselor called to personally congratulate me- just one more personal touch that really draws me to St.Olaf!

Does anyone know if there is a facebook page for Class of 2017? All of my other schools have one but this is the one where I actually want to join and I can’t find one!

They did start a page - not much there yet. My daughter - who wrote the previous description of her visit - gave a “Um, ya ya”, callout there. We will be going to the April 20 admitted students day.

Even though my D applied, she did so via the Common App and never set up an account on St Olaf’s website. So how can she check her application status online?

My daughter applied Common App also and was sent a letter from St. O. in Oct. saying “thank you for beginning your application…” and included a PIN number to use at admissions.stolaf.edu/apply/status

@Guille19- you are on the right page, they must just not have released your status online yet. What you would see if they did is “awaiting deposit” and invitations to accepted students days

@rapamom-Thanks, I found it and liked it! I’m still waiting on my Macalester notification so I know exactly when to book my flights, but right now I am looking at going to the second accepted students day (April 20th) as well! Can’t wait to get on campus!

I just got accepted to St. Olaf and received a presidential scholarship. Congrats to all that were accepted… I hope to see you at accepted students day!!

I was surprised to receive a scholarship because of my relatively average stats (SAT 1850 composite, 600 writing, 630 math, 620 reading; 3.9 unweighted GPA, 4.2 weighted GPA). However, I am BIG into community service, political activism, and extra curricular activities. This must mean that St. Olaf evaluates scholarships and acceptance on a variety of different levels, which is really awesome!

I found out through mail, but I also saw on the status checker that I should register for “Accepted Students Day” and “The Great Conversations”.

My son received an admission offer in the mail today. His status online has not changed. It still looks like his application is in process at the St. Olaf status tracking website.
