D just got an email from Clark -- she got the Presidential Scholarship! Definitely makes Clarke more appealing. Also got an invite to the dinner the night before the admitted students' day on April 3rd. To everyone who went to the last one, was it worth it and a good experience?

Any advice about what to do or see at the campus (or most importantly- what questions to ask) or in Worcester over the weekend?

Woot woot! Upstatemom, that’s fabulous. My D got the same scholarship, but it’s too hard for her to get there from the west coast for the events. But please share her/your input after you go.

hello upstatemom,
when did your D receive your Clark package in the mail?
I am still awaiting mine.
sooo nervous… i can only hope the aid offer is good.

Thank you researching! Trying to convince D that it will be worth it to go. She says she definitely won’t go to the Scholar’s Dinner, but grudgingly might go to the open house. I remember reading your posts when your D got accepted and the scholarship and was hopeful that mine would also receive it. Trying now to look at Worcester with a more positive eye and plan on exploring more of it when we go.

Arvp11 D got an email yesterday afternoon just informing her of the scholarship (no info on any other fin aid). It said a package with more detailed info would come later; I assume by mail. They wanted to notify her early so that she (we) can plan for the upcoming open houses–the first one is a week from Sunday.

My S just received the package in the mail today…got the Achievement Award ($12K/year). Think it should bring the out of pocket cost down to a doable level… :)

hammer- Congrats! I see that your S applied to Brandies and Northeastern as well as Clark–so did my D. Interesting that they applied to the same schools as the schools seem so different.

D got her fin aid pkg. today. Very nice and along with the scholarship she got a grant and the stafford loans. No work/study which was interesting as every other school has given her w/s. Wondering how firm these pkgs. are.

The schools to seem to be different…that will make the decision process interesting. I think Clark would be a good fit for my S but he needs to figure that out for himself.

Still waiting on Tufts but I’m not all that hopeful…it’s a reach school, and Brandeis and NU didn’t offer any aid beyond the Stafford Loans so chances are that my S will not attend either of those. No need to go deep into debt for undergraduate school.

Upstatemom and Hammer, I’d be glad to have your thoughts as to how Clark and Northeastern compare in terms of academics and advising. We were not able to visit either campus, but both schools seem to have pros and cons (besides their locations).

I actually have a friend who transfered from clark to northeastern sophomore year. His reasons for transferring were that they didn’t have his major here, and that he wanted to live at home and commute to school.

He is doing neuroscience and premed. His classes seem to be much larger than at clark. Everything seems to be much less personal than at clark, where professors generally know your name and who you are. He also had a lot of trouble getting a co-op. He applied to a ton of places and still hasn’t found one. In his experience there isn’t much in the way of help finding one.

According to him, socially, northeastern doesn’t compare to clark. The people just aren’t as friendly as people at clark. They seem to be a lot more preppy and stuck up at northeastern. He still comes back to visit clark every now and then.

sorry to interrupt this thread, but I was admitted to clark, three weeks ago and I still have not received anything in the mail. Should I be worried? The said the package would arrive on the 21st. (I applied for fin aid, and I’m curious as to what my package looks like.) Of course, I am living overseas. (Asia) should I email admissions or hold out a while longer?

I believe they sent them out on the 21st. I didn’t receive mine until Saturday. Since you are overseas, I would expect it to take a little while longer so I wouldn’t worry about it.

Broken–what kind of co-ops was your friend at NEU looking–medical, hospital, research etc.? Was he willing to go out of Boston for it or did he just want to be able to live at home and do his co-op in the Boston area?

If you have any other feedback from him, I (and probably others) would love to know. Or PM me. Thanks!

@Broken_symlink, thanks for that information about your friend at Northeastern. It’s sounding more and more impersonal and bureaucratic and has moved down in my son’s list.
