RD Applicant Scholarships and Honors/Scholars

They have specifically the amount of scholarship that they can give, but hopefully they haven’t given all yet.

I do not think it is customary for schools to re-allocate scholarships if those they initially awarded them to decline. Too bad!

So I just called a few people from OSU today. I’m sorry to say but she told me they already gave almost all their merit scholarship money to EA applicants. However, applying RD does not affect your chances for honors/scholars too much. They said they evaluate all EA applicants first (they are still in the process) and then look at RD applicants. They said if you meet the criteria, there is still a good chance so keep your hopes up everyone!

Lilliewwy - I’m confused by you apparently conflicting statements -

“they already gave almost all their merit scholarship money to EA applicants”

vs.

"They said they evaluate all EA applicants first (they are still in the process) and then look at RD applicants. They said if you meet the criteria, there is still a good chance "

Which is it?

I applied RD but early…like in September. I got a Morrill Prominence scholarship. I applied to scholars and got in in December. I have a 34 ACT and a 4.0. I don’t know which is better, Scholars or Honors, but I heard you can apply to honors after first semester so I went with Scholars. I’ll be poli sci/international relations and prelaw. Good luck to those still waiting. If anyone is doing scholars for poli sci/pre-law, let me know.

I got into honors with a 34 ACT. A little sad that I will not be getting any scholarships, especially since I sent in my app practically on the deadline, but had forgotten to send my test scores in time… At least I have crossed another school off my list, though…

I received an email saying that I was accepted to the Honors Program, yesterday. I applied RD, so maybe there’s still a chance at receiving a scholarship, too!

The first statement was regarding scholarships such as the national buckeye and trustees.
The second statement was about honors and scholars acceptances. You can still get into the honors or scholars program even if you applied rd.

My son applied RD Dec. 29, accepted into honors March 3. Just called admissions today and according to the woman I spoke with, he will not be receiving any merit scholarships. Specifically, it appears this is because he applied so late. Sorry to to break it to any RD applicants still holding out hope. They only gave out merit scholarships to EA’s and some to those who got their applications in shortly after the EA deadline. This is really disappointing as our guidance counselor messed up and didn’t send in his transcripts in on time, so after missing the EA deadline he wasn’t in any hurry to complete the app. So now, I’m so wishing he had went ahead and sent the application in right away when the transcripts were sent. Also wish we would have known how very important the early app. was.
He’s ranked #1 in his class & 32 on SAT…not sure of his final GPA but all A’s.

Yes, I spoke with them a month ago. That’s what they told me.

So far the way OSU awards scholarship money is the only downside I see to the school…but, in the end, it might be a deal breaking for us.

Amazing news today! Son who applied RD (see my note above) just received the Maximus Scholarship…woo hoo! We are so excited. We are in state so we should be able to swing it now just fine. Don’t give up, and if you haven’t called the school maybe you should give them a ring…that’s what I did last week, maybe it made a difference, I don’t know. Good luck to all still waiting for something.

Just got an email last night notifying me I was accepted into the honors program. It was funny because earlier in the day I emailed a representative asking when I could expect to hear a decision and two hours before I was accepted, they told me it would be around mid April.
