Hi everyone, I was recently accepted into the Columbus campus at OSU and I was wondering when I would hear back from the honors college or from any scholarships. In the letter I received there was no merit scholarship rewarded and I was wondering if that means I wasn’t given any merit scholarship money or if it is supposed to come later? I applied to the Morrill scholarship as well. When should I be hearing back for that? Lastly, for the honors program, does the university notify you in the acceptance letter or is that a separate notification process as well?
@annnaaad - Congrats ! Merit Scholarships come later. Morrill Scholarship notification comes via the email you have setup. Honors and Scholars program notification comes via email.

@annnaaad: I have recieved snail mail from OSU informing me that I have got into the University Honors program, late december …No word on scholarships as yet…keeping my fingers crossed though…BTW which major did u apply for?
i applied for health science, which one did you apply for? Also when did you send in your application? @Adwaya
does anyone know by what date honors program notifications should be out as well?
@annnaad: I got into the ECE dept. i.e Electrical and Computer Engineering…I sent in my application last October… As for honors, i dont think they hav such a date… Everyone is still fair game for it…
I can’t believe I was not accepted into the honors program. They instead accepted me into their far less impressive scholars program (my second choice). Wth? I got a 34 on my ACT, I have a 4.15 GPA, I have extremely impressive extracurriculars. This is just insulting.
@jsmith98, “less impressive” ? You should decline the scholars program. Your an insult to everyone that recieved scholars.
@jsmith98 you should definitely call the Honors office and find out why, or ask them to reconsider or ask how you can appeal. A 34 composite ACT and with a 4.15 weighted gpa (I assume 4.0 is an A or equivalent to 100) with rigorous courses taken and, I assume you took AP courses, then you deserve to find out why you were not admitted and ask them for reconsideration. It is possible that your Essay or your Honors Supplemental Essay on the Common App was poorly written and did not explain well why you want Honors and how you meet the five GOALS (Global Awareness, Original Inquiry, Academic Enrichment, Leadership and Service Engagement) could be the reason.
chillll @jsmith98 It’s honestly not a big deal. transfer into honors after a semester if you really want.
So on Thursday night, I sent an email to honors-scholars@osu.edu to show interest about getting into the honors program using buckeyemail. I got an email back Friday morning saying they’re sending decisions about honors until April, so I figured it’ll be a while till I hear back. I get an email Friday night at around 11:30 EST saying I didn’t get into honors (which I was aiming for) but did get into scholars. I have a 32 ACT, top 15% class rank. While my numbers aren’t quite as impressive as above, I was fully expecting to get into honors. Did I do something wrong by rushing them by sending an email?
Also, someone from my school has a 32 ACT, but top 10% and got into the honors program.
@rman98 If you have the stats then it’s honestly based upon your essay from that point on.
@rman98 What’s your major?
@jsmith98 I’m majoring in finance. Are there only a certain amount of spots in honors per major?
@rman98 They have certain programs in both honors and scholars. There is a business program in honors and scholars so maybe they thought you were a better fit for the scholars business program.
@trackmbe3 Thanks for the advice. I filed for an appeal.
