This is a thread to see if any regular decision applicants have recieved scholarships and/or admission into the honors and scholars program. Please fill out as much as you know when information is recieved…

Honors/Scholars:
I talked to OSU admission office and they told me that they had given all the merit aid scholarships for those who apply EARLY. It would be unlikely for someone to get a scholarship.
That seems like a pretty stupid approach to admissions, don’t you think?
That seems like a pretty stupid approach for awarding scholarships by admissions, don’t you think?
I would expect merit scholarships to be awarded based on the merits of your application not the date you applied…especially 11/1 which is early action type timing.
I applied October 29 before the priority deadline, but regular decision. I was accepted like mid December. I have received the Morrill’s Scholarship. I just got notified today that I got in the Honors Program.
Date Applied:It was a few weeks before the EA deadline.
Date Accepted: My letter was dated November 26, but my decision was posted online a few days before the letter came.
Scholarship Received: I’m interviewing for the Morrill Distinction Scholarship soon.
Honors/Scholars: Honors.
@adkdad the scholarships were given to all of the students who applied early. They have a limit on offering scholarship. Yeah, based on the application they give the scholarships, but they have given all.
So the fundamental assumption of Admission at OSU is that none of the RD applicants are worthy of merit aid?
Does that make any sense if a school is truly interested in securing the best possible student body - based on any tangible measure of 'best possible student body"?
Who said is not worthy? I am saying that they have given all the funds that they have when they give the merit aid. Here is an email that they sent me.
Thank you for contacting Ohio State! There is a limited amount of merit aid available and once it has been administered, there is no further aid that can be given out in the same academic term. Please let us know if you have any further questions!
@adkdad
By giving out all the scholarship money to early applicants, it seems like OSU doesn’t think the RD applicants are worthy. Otherwise why don’t they distribute the money more slowly as they release all the decisions? …the whole application/acceptance/admittance process run all the way through May 1st, why blow all the money by November 1st?? Why rush when giving out such precious merit aid?
I think the same as you @adkdad since I applied RD. I need merit aid but if they gave everything, I would consider other schools.
@Jr12317 I’m with you in hoping they haven’t given everything out as just the National Buckeye Scholarship would almost guarantee that I attend tOSU, but I didn’t apply EA.
Yeah, we are on the same boat. I wish someone talk right now and say she received the Buckeye or other. @dominonoodle
At this point, the party line from OSU Admissions re: the awarding of merit scholarships is 2 fold -
- funds for merit scholarships were essentially depleted after granting awards to students who met the priority deadline
and
- you are still currently being considered for merit scholarships on a funds-available basis.
If you believe the first, the second is essentially a lie to shut you up and/or give you false hope.
Time will tell!
Or as people decline the scholarship offer it will be granted to someone else
How do you find out if you’ve been admitted to some type of scholars program. I got my scholarship info in the mail should the scholars info have been with the scholarship?
@PrayforUF Did you write the supplemental essay for Honors or Scholars as part of your Common Application? If so, you should receive a separate email if you are accepted into one of those two programs. You should call the Honors and Scholars office if you applied and have not yet heard back. Ask them to check your status.
No I didn’t alright then thank you for the info!
@PrayforUF If you really want to be in either Honors or Scholars , it would be worth a call to let them know your interest and see if you can still apply. I know that for Scholars you need to start as a freshman. I believe for Honors you can apply again after Freshman year and if you have at least a 3.5 gpa you can get in.
the Scholars acceptance was sent to my son via email, and the application deadline for ranking the Scholars choices that he received is tomorrow, with decisions TBA in March. I don’t know if they are in waves with future groups, but when we were on campus this past Monday, we were told that the Scholars assignments would be out in a few weeks.
