RD Applicants: Interview Advice

Hi again--

I was curious as to when they actually decide on an application... I know my app has been received, is complete, and has been "filed". Surely they can't make all the decisions within the last week or so. When does the commitee start voting on apps? If one reader likes the kid and one doesn't, then will it go to committee?

Thanks!

Only an admissions officer can give you accurate info. No idea when they start voting. I'm pretty sure they are working around the clock. Even if both readers like you, I think you go to committee. I don't think anyone gets accepted without going to committee, but I really have no basis for this belief. Have no idea what percentage go to committee. I'm sure there a good number of people who just aren't realistic and a good number of people who are very strong who are obviously going to committee. What happens to the grey area people is the big question.

Grey areas... ugh. Thank you!

i did my interview this morning.
it was great!!!! i loved talking to my interviewer, it was a very natural, fun conversation.
one thing that bugged me was she told me that she was in a secret society
but didnt elaborate!!

yeah its secret lol

haha well i realize that
but she brought it up
and it was really awkward u know?
like the pink elephant was obviously there between me and her at the coffee shop lol

wait....it seems like tons of people have already submitted their RD Yale application??!! I haven't started mine :S Oh my.

i thinkl many of these ppl are EA but are posting on this thread

Should I provide my interviewer with a copy of my resume?

No, I asked my interviewer and he said not to bring mine because he's not admissions council and just wants to hear what I did from me and not a piece of paper.

well i brought my resusme, and it started as a good conversation point. she just kind of skimmed through it to get a better understanding of me.

take it, ask if she/he wants it, and if she/he doesn't, you carried 1 or 2 extra sheets of paper around. If she/he does, great.

resume*
argh hate typos

i had my interview today! I didnt bring my resume and everything went fine, so no worries. but interestingly, his first question was....what other colleges are you applying too? i was ok with it and after that everything was much more conversational.

Hi

I have a question.

I'm planning to submit my application form on December 26 (around that time ). Will that hurt my chance of getting an interview? are interviews distributed on a first come first serve basis?

thanks!

Starburst,

How did you respond the first question?

well, i tried to be as honest as possible but i emphasized how these were all second choices to yale. I mentioned that my list isnt final and I'm mostly interested in northeastern schools. i told him honestly that i havent visited princeton so im most likely not going to apply adn harvard, most likely, but i would rather be at yale. otherwise i did tell him i will be applying to columbia, nyu, rochester, duke etc. and luckily, he really didn't seem to care, i think he was just interested and trying to get a general sense of what i watned in a school.

Ha, my interviewer and I went into a half an hour discussion on the surefire way to get into secret societies.

I really enjoyed my interview - it ended up being well over two hours long.

I just got a call from my alumnus interviewer. A bit nervous and all. What should I do if he brings up a topic that I am not knowledgeable in?

That shouldn't happen at all. The interview is all about you. You should feel prepared to talk about you and what you have done in high school. Also be prepared to ask the question that they will most likely definitely ask about: Why Yale?

the only comment i received from my interviewee was, "best of luck on your application." i am feeling bad now because i think it might not be a very successful one ...
