gerberagirl and janerik, you guys should receive Financial Aid related stuff through regular mail. Don’t assume you can’t afford it, just as yet and congratulations! PM me with any questions you may have about how it goes from hereon.

sushmita, I’m so sorry! It’s the Financial Aid and nothing else, I’m sure. Please don’t take it personally. Also, Smith is a fabulous place and honestly it’s Reed’s loss at this point, I feel.

This has been such a competitive application year…I wonder how it’s going to turn out.

Paradox, here’s what it said in the FAQ (attached to the email):

What if I need financial aid?
In most years, all of Reed’s financial aid for incoming freshmen has been allocated by May 1, leaving no funds available for students admitted from the wait list. That said, the financial aid budget situation does vary from year to year, and there have been years when financial aid has been available for a handful of students on the wait list. If you are admitted from the wait list, you will be notified at that time whether financial aid funds will be available.

Doesn’t look so good for me.

Rejected it is
Rejection no. 6

Yeah ArtemisDea, but keep yourself on the waitlist. I loved Reed and I have no regrets with it as my final choice, but I gave up a lot of waitlist spots just because people said it’s impossible for international students needing Financial Aid, and then I saw people getting in with Aid at a variety of colleges-Haverford being among them, which hurts for Financial Aid almost as much as Reed, so you never know.

Still nothing, has anyone else not received an email yet?

I’m so sorry gary7. I feel horrible for sushmita and you as a fellow Indian, but like I said, it’s just Financial Aid and nothing else. I’ve personally read your essay and I know what you expressed would qualify you as Reedie material. I just don’t know what to say. I feel really bad.

Paradox: I’m both bitter and honored about being on the waitlist, honestly. I’m bitter because I think had I been able to pay (as 98% of my immediate peers can), I would’ve been able to apply ED to my dream school and probably get in. I think I would’ve had a better shot, and it could’ve been the deciding factor in getting me admitted. On the flipside, Reed was a reach for me because I’m not a typical applicant with numbers on my side. My ACT, 31, is smack-dab in the average range for Reed. I’ve got a 3.3 unweighted GPA from one of the most difficult schools in the country (the one and only 4.0 in the school is headed to MIT). So I’m thankful that they looked at my application and deemed me worthy, or semi-worthy, or something.

Yeah, I’m still waiting too, TelephoneForLife . . . can’t be too much longer . . . right?

edit: As soon as I wrote that, it came. :)

This does seem like a very competitive year for Reed, ArtemisDea. I won’t be surprised if applications have shot up from the highest number in 2008. With a college like Reed, I think if you end up sending them an application, that in itself, is somewhat like an acceptance because most people either end up not applying because of its academic pressure cooker, druggie, hippie etc. reputation or haven’t heard about it at all.

Yeah, being the valedictorian of my class and my commitment to extracurricular activities an such I thought I somwhat had a chance, but for some reason I knew this was coming.

Accepted. I still can’t believe it! This is a DREAM!

Congratulations windowsmaclinux! :)

I like the latter part of your username, Mr. Linux. Using Arch Linux right now.

Oh–and, congratulations.

Well. I certainly would’ve loved to attend Reed, but I’ve known that it wouldn’t work out for me. It’s sad, because I really think I could’ve loved it, but I’ll do just as well at Chapel Hill. Plus, I won’t graduate with debt.

Congratsssss!

it really surprised me. i got 3 rejections and 3 waitlists before Reed. Waitlisted at Amherst and Haverford this morning. I’m an international applying for aid btw. That surprised me even more!

Wow, windowsmaclinux, fellow international 2014 Reedie too (accepted last year and on deferral). Knowing how hard it is, you deserve further congratulations! Where are you from, btw?

Accepted!

Worked out after all.
