RD Decisions

My D just got her acceptance letter from Rhodes today so RD decisions are on their way; I don't think they went out till later in March last year, so we weren't expecting any word till at least the middle of next week.

Good luck everyone!

Congratulations! I discovered today that I got waitlisted. I’m still deciding on whether or not to send my letter back to remain on the list since I’ve gotten accepted to a couple other schools and financially Rhodes is a bit of a reach. Congrats once again!!

Our son received “the big envelope” from Rhodes in today’s mail.

^ The envelope was big?! I got in EA and it was small. :(

Yes. Big. Don’t know why it’s big or what’s inside. He’s out of town until Friday, and we’ll have to wait until then to find out. I just know it’s good news because it says he’s accepted right on the outside.

HL: I believe there’s only two pieces of paper inside. 1 is a very personal letter; the other is a checklist of upcoming events & things to do. I’m not home to read it right now but the important part is what’s written on the outside of the envelope :)

^ That’s good. At first I thought I was rejected, but I saw the congratulations. Kinda gives away the surprise. :-P

I’m out of town, but when DS checked the mail for me today, he discovered his acceptance letter from Rhodes! I didn’t know it was coming so soon, either!

Yes, it was funny that such a big envelope had so little in it. If I had to guess, I would say they used the big envelope format simply because people expect acceptances to arrive in big envelopes and rejections/waitlists in small ones, and when you look inside your your mailbox, the first thing you notice is the envelope’s size, not what’s written on the outside.

Son is in and so Happy!

Congrats - we are interested in Rhodes- would anyone want to pm me their scores/ GPA’s- anything that helped them with getting in

Congrats, Maine!!!
DD is waiting to hear from the CODA scholarship to see if Rhodes is in her future!

Sure, Rhodes looks at scores and GPAs to demonstrate a solid academic background, but there’s a lot more to it than that. Rhodes puts a big emphasis on well-rounded students who are active in their communities, take AP/Honors/IB classes (which may result in a lower GPA, but are still preferable to a bunch of regular classes), may work part-time during the school year. So get all that on your resume too.

Hello, S was accepted to Rhodes, with a $17k per year scholarship. While this seems great, I have nothing to measure it against to know if it is a good deal or not. He was also accepted into the Honors College at Mizzou, and about 1/2 or slightly more of his tuition will be covered, plus honors, small classes, honors dorm, etc. He’s interested in journalism, then law school. Not sure what to do… MU’s J-school is tops, but Rhodes seems like a terrific college. Would welcome advice from anyone… thanks!

My son was accepted into Rhodes and given $20K in scholarship per year. Still haven’t decided as we’re waiting for 2 more colleges to decide, but in the meantime, he’s going to be visiting Memphis this weekend. If he falls in love, then he may very well be Memphis bound.
According to Rudd’s, Rhodes scores highest is all the major’s my son is interested in; Biology, pre-med, history, law, etc. It is a small school yet comparable in its ratings to most of the higest select schools. Hands down, I would choose it over Missou.
