RD mailed out!

Thanks, Hilsa. Yeah 12 hours away is considerably further than where I am. Hopefully we will both get ours tomorrow! Good luck to you.

Duncan - My class is about 600 kids and I'm roughly #100 (we don't have class rank but you get the picture). My SATs are 2230. Most people above me (roughly 100 kids!!!) have SAT scores just like mine, if not better. I have a 3.6 GPA of 4.33 (we give A+s) and a 4.9 weighted (out of 6 something). I took 3 SAT II's but bombed Spanish & for all intents & purposes, bombed Lit. I take all AP & honors courses with the exception being math, although I took a summer course to catch up so I'm in Calculus now, but it's only an accelerated course.

EC's - Class Secretary (4 years), Student Action Committee member (3 years), Peer Mediation (3 years total, 1 as publicity head, 1 as president), NHS (1 year), SNHS (1 year), Fall Cheerleading (4 years total - 1 as freshman team captain, 2 as JV, 1 as varsity), Winter Cheerleading (1 year, varsity), Cheer Coaching (2 years coaching a Pop Warner team -- I was on Pop Warner for like 10 years), Girl Scouts (since kindergarten; I have my bronze, silver, & gold awards). I got National Merit Commendation but I wasn't a semifinalist or a finalist or anything. I was on homecoming court but I don't actually think I put that, hahaha. My recs were from my chem teacher, my English teacher, and my class advisor.

I have only taken one AP test to date, and it was one I really didn't care about or study for. It was AP US History and I got a 2. It didn't really matter to me at all, though. I shouldn't have even taken it.

This year I'm going to take 5 tests, all of which I care about -- Calc AB, Eng Lang, Eng Lit, Span Lit, & US Gov & Politics.

What're your stats? :)

-edit-

I'll also add that my interview really didn't go so well, IMO. I had 5 interviews and this was the only one I wasn't confident about.

Thanks, Hakre. Good luck to you as well! I just don't know how mail works. Are UPS and Fedex always delivering mail 24 hours a day? We should definitely get it tomorrow if it works that way.

Duncan, you said have SAT scores in the 1900's and higher, are in a million clubs, members of NHS.

a) Vandy only cares about 1600 scores, unfortunately. b) Being in a million clubs usually isn't good. c) NHS means nothing.

Just felt like explaining that. =]

HAI GUISE:

What do you think will be more important: transcript(rigor of courseload/GPA) or SAT/ACT scores?

Hilsa -

GPA & class rank.

I also have no idea how mail works, and I read a post earlier about how someone who was accepted didn't receive their packet in the expected time. To the GPA/Rank vs. SAT/ACT question, I think this is the former (IMO). GPA and class rank are so important because they show a college how you work and compete in the setting that you are in. I don't know though, these are just my thoughts. Well I am going to go sleep now good luck to everyone on here!

I think a qualifying SAT/ACT score is secondary to courseload/GPA. And hilsa you're right for sure, I was just trying to make the point that my class is extremely competitive, the teachers say the most competitive high school class they've ever seen. I think thats a national phenomena though--not limited to Bangor, ME.

And pinkcupcake: you're standardized test scores blow me away. I took the SAT once junior year and didn't do that great so I took the ACT instead. I only got a 28.
GPA: 96.00 (we don't have a 4.0 scale)
Rank: definitely top 12, 13 ish but we don't do that either
Student Senator 4 years, officer this year
Civil rights, NHS, math team
Volunteer at Mana Soup Kitchen for quite awile, completed 100+ hours
Varsity soccer (2 years), varsity track 94 yrs), varsity indoor track (4 yrs)

good recomendations and all. 6 AP courses, from last year my scores were;
APUSH- 3
ENG LIT- 4
AP BIO- 5

and i'm in BC calc, AP ENG LANG, and AP CHEM this year.

Teachers at my school say the same about my class. :\ Rawr!

I took the SATs 3x. My math always brought me down (710) but I'm assuming that you're a math & science person...? :o) I'm not familiar with the ACT though, so I'm not sure what a 28 means exactly.

BC Calc. O, mg.

I think you have a really good shot at Vandy though. Well rounded & everything.

well thanks. thats nice of you to say. And for the record, you're getting down on yourself way too heard. You think automatic rejection? I think you are one of the better candidates, you're a really strong applicant whos good at everything. Athletics, hard courses, great GPA and standardized scores! Lets just see what happens

OmG ChanCe me PLZ i canT wait 12 hOurs !!!1!!1!!!!!!1
tanks guyz!

If that's the case (that transcript wins), then I may still have some hope.

I guess we're putting our stats up for the time being? I'll join, even though we'll all have our stats on the results thread soon. :P

Academics: I have a 4.0 (out of 4) UW GPA, 4.7 GPA. 32 ACT. 760 Chem, 730 US History, 690 Math IIC (>_<) SAT IIs. I've taken 10 APs. I've gone [5,5,5,4,4,3,3 so far (though I got a 3 in BC Calc, but a 4 on the AB subscore so I included that)]. The rest of my classes are honors except for my 4 years of chamber orchestra, and Latin I & II for some reason. Top 10%.

Extracurriculars: Cashier 12 hrs/wk for 2.5 years, Latin Club President for 2 years (member 8th-11th), Captain of Latin Academic Olympics for 2 years, Senior Class Treasurer, Volunteer at Special Olympics for 4 years, Chemistry tutor for 1.5 years, Prom Director for 2 years, National Junior Honor Society Historian, Media Task Committee Executive Board Member for 4 years (we allocate funds to areas in the library that need it most), Member of National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta for 3 years and National Latin Honor Society for 4 years.

Random: Violin for 7 years (chamber orchestra for 4), Film Critic for school newspaper for 4 years

Recs: Since I want to major in Chemistry, I got recs from my Chem I/Organic Chem/AP Physics C teacher and my AP Chem teacher, whom I also both TA for.

Interview: I had such a blast. We talked about Slumdog Millionaire and how Sarratt also houses indie/foreign/documentary films that will satiate my need for good movies!

ModernChem, you can suck it.

Love, Hillary :)

you stand no chance hilsa.

hahahah. Hilsa you're in. thats my bet

But in all seriousness, I'm sure your letter tomorrow will be so fat they had to kill 30 trees just to make it.

(hows that for your conscience, liberal!)

Oh, but I forgot to include that my SAT is only a failing 1410 (700 CR 710 M...770 W =[ ). That's going to screw me over.

And I don't know if I'm in. Like, someone can be a great candidate, but they may not translate their greatness onto paper well, henceforth drastically diminishing their chances. I'm not saying I'm great, but I have potential. But it's all about my execution of selling myself as best as possible.

Well, ModernChem, atleast I'll feel better that if I get waitlisted, I saved a few innocent trees from dying a painful death.

Well, at least you sucked up at every opportunity you had.

lollll jk

o, and I am the HILSATROLL!!!!! scandal!1!1!1

Is that statement srs business? Hahaha. That would be so funny if you were.

haha it is true. I have revealed my identity because I am almost certain im not going to vandy even if I get in

lololololololol. I still love you anyway.

I bet you hated me. And I bet you really did think I was sucking up. I just have a habit of sometimes rubbing people the wrong way with my weird views and opinions, or saying things in a way that can be misconstrued as bad. I don't look before I leap sometimes. =]

But really. I mean, who doesn't love the Vandy admissions counselors? Thom and Brad are funny, and my own admissions counselor is super nice!

Why do I always think you applied and were accepted ED, ModernChem? Hmm...

Some posts were blatant attempts to suck up so I called it out, but like everything I do, I did it for the love of the LOL.

Oh and btw: suck up.

;)

nah I didnt apply ED, im goin to rice im pretty sure
