Accepted with 30K merit… 95 gpa/ mid 2300 sat/ M2 800/ SAT2 high 790s/ NMF/AP scholar with distinction/ attended local, high school & campus info sessions/campus interview… also accepted into Wash U without any (zero) interest.

Does anyone know if the scholarships/grants automatically renew?

@slymlady I believe they do if they are mentioned as being four year scholarships, but I’m to a hundred percent sure. I would call the financial aid office just in case. There also might be criteria like maintaining a certain gpa

It sounds like they continue as long as you’re in good standing.

Waitlisted with 2050 SAT and 3.4 GPA, so not because of too high stats. Congrats to those admitted.

Accepted (plus a merit scholarship) with 2300 SAT and 3.97 GPA.

Did anyone else get a personal note about their essay with their acceptance email? I did, it was really nice! Best letter I’ve gotten from a college so far!

I’m surprised that people with similar stats to mine were waitlisted. I never visited, but I did take the time and effort to write extra for their merit scholarships, so maybe they saw that as extra interest?

Hooray! I was also accepted (30k merit) with a 2300 sat, several 800 sat IIs and high 3.9 gpa. I’m really happy and excited about this but at the same time a little worried…do they really waitlist/reject all the high qualified applicants who they think will be accepted and go to other schools? I showed absolutely 0 interest, but I think my common app essay was really bad. Is it possible they thought my essay was so bad that I may not get in anywhere else and that’s why they accepted me?

Hey! I got in, but wanted to know if international applicants get scholarships?

@rohanezio Did they mention scholarships in your acceptance letter on the portal?

nope and none of my friends who are international students got a scholarship either. But my friends from the US did, which is why I’m confused

Waitlisted with a 2320 SAT, 3.7 UW GPA, near 800s on 4 SAT II’s, 10 AP’s, National Merit Semifinalist, 2600 Volunteer hours (continued one activity since childhood), and cardiology research along with other ec’s

@rohanezio, the CWRU website says: The Office of Undergraduate Admission evaluates all first-year applicants for undergraduate admission to Case Western Reserve University for scholarships provided they are U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents of the United States.

Hello, congrats to everyone who was accepted and good luck to those who were wait listed! I got in EA but I’ve been rejected from the elite schools like ND and WUSTL so congrats to those who made it. I love Case!

Did anyone apply to the Milton A. & Roslyn Z. Wolf Scholarship? Or the leadership scholarship? When and how do we get these notifications?

Thanks!

ND and WUSTL are no better than Case. They are both good schools, but WUSTL in particular, made a concerted effort to boost their USNWR ranking by “playing” the system. They intentionally recruited students to be able to have more to reject, thus boosting their selectivity. They really started the model that so many now follow, especially Vanderbilt. Don’t get me wrong. Wash U is a very good school, but your perception that they are “elite” is a perception they wove from whole cloth. In reality, there are no elite schools. Yes some are better than others, but it largely depends on what specifically you are comparing. Harvard UGs frequently complain about how bad the teaching is. Cornell has classes that have 600 students. At Berkeley you can take computer science in a class with 1000 of your closest friends. Yes, a class with more than 1000 students! You’ll be well served by a Case degree, just as much so as one from ND or WUSTL. Good luck.

I was accepted with a 30k scholarship, but I was stunned by the waitlist. I mean, my stats are pretty high, but some of the waitlisted people have ridiculous scores.
Accepted into Engineering with 35 ACT 11 W, 800 Math II, 780 Chem, 4.00 UW GPA, 1st in class. The letter said at the bottom that they really enjoyed reading about my passion for languages, so I guess that helped me out as I’m really involved in Chinese and have done several government sponsored summer programs. Plus, it probably didn’t hurt that I was a woman going into a STEM field. Can’t say I really displayed any interest besides applying for scholarships though.
Waitlisted at Wash. U, deferred at Princeton, and accepted at UIUC and got a likely letter from Notre Dame.

@eyemgh,

As your logic, CWRU is no better than other lower ranking schools either.
People who get no merit scholarship in Ivies, might get ½ ride in CWRU, or might get full ride in lower ranking schools. There is a difference.

Ivies don’t offer any merit-scholarship at all.
Ivies vs. 1/2 ride CWRU vs. full ride other colleges
Middle class’ dilemma .

I was speaking ONLY in terms of the perception of being Elite. How much did you know about Wash U 30 years ago? I did, because I grew up there. It was a good school back then, but it is no better now than it was then. The rankings just make people believe that it is. The same applies for Case. It has been a good school for quite some time. I’ve know about it all my life and always knew it as a strong engineering school. My grandfather went to Case.

My point being, rankings and the perception of being elite don’t mean much. The poster who was lamenting his rejection from WUSTL and ND will be getting as good, if not better, depending on their major at Case.

The rankings have been and continue to be flawed AND manipulated because people seem to care.

I got into CWRU and its one of the more preferable colleges on my list but there is one thing I don’t get and hopefully someone can clear this up. I first heard of CWRU from reading about them in Bloomberg about their finance program. However, according to US News’s report, the top 5 majors at CWRU are biomed and engineering- none about finance/business. So how good is CWRU for finance and business? If anyone could give me some testimony that would be well appreciated.

@dad2013, I personally don’t believe ANY undergraduate education is worth 1/4 of a million dollars. Plus, there’s plenty of evidence that suggests that kids who have the stats to get into an Ivy but go elsewhere, even to their state flagship, all have an equal chance at success. It’s much more about the person and what the do with their time than it is about where their paper comes from.
