RD Oberlin College Class of 2017

in! 17k merit and a nice note about the fact that I’m a legacy :)

nothing in Texas, no surprise.

Nothing in Florida and nothing on the fin aid page :/

Waitlisted in MD :frowning:
Is there any possibility to get in?

Nothing here in NY, I thought for sure I’d be getting it today. I just got waitlisted at Brown so hopefully my Oberlin decision will be better.

Accepted with 20k in merit and… THAT’S IT?! Very disappointed with Oberlin’s FA, will be appealing as this is my first choice.

20K is a very good amount!! how much were you hoping for?

Anyone from California hear back from Oberlin? If it takes longer to arrive does that mean it’s more likely a large envelope?

@ thecrazychimpz I got my rejection letter today in Northern California.

Sorry to hear that StaticRoar, but you shouldn’t feel bad, colleges are getting super competitive!

Anyone else hear back who lives in California?

I’m from Northern California and have not gotten my letter yet. Guess I’ll have to wait for tomorrow.

I live in Central California and got my letter today.

waitlisted.
gonna try to get in because Oberlin is all I want

SgtDonut, 20K in merit/grant aid that you don’t have to repay is pretty good. Elsewhere you said your EFC was about 26K. Oberlin pretty much automatically includes a Stafford loan at 5.5k in packages. The balance they ‘try’ to make it 70-80 percent grant and the balance is a loan component. Sounds like that’s pretty much what they did.I don’t think you were gapped - it sounds like they really want you to attend!

Congrats and condolences all around. As to the waitlist - there are some great posts on the Oberlin blogs about that. Good luck!

You and I have different ideas of “pretty good” because I’d have to take an additional 10k a year in loans to attend.

60k COA - 20k aid - 5k loans = 35k EFC, not exactly the same as 26k. Which is more than we can afford already. I don’t think I’m being unreasonable, it’s just an overpriced school.

If you think your EFA has been figured incorrectly, you should let them know. Oberlin meets the full assessed financial need of every accepted US student.

I got a 25k/yr scholarship which is fantastic, but only an 11k/yr grant which leaves me with about 11k each year in loans. Which is a LOT, and we don’t have the money to pay w/o the loans factored in. I think I may try to appeal as well.

I don’t mean to seem ungrateful, but I don’t know how anyone could try to tell me that this is a good deal. It’s nice to have been accepted, but if I can’t afford the school, what does it matter?

Hopefully today is the day we hear from Oberlin, all those who are still waiting that is.

D was rejected from Oberlin today. I am happy that she got Carleton and Macalester to choose from. Good luck to all of you.

Got in but no merit or FA. Oh well, I’m headed to Grinnell! Hopefully this frees up a spot on the waitlist :)
