RD/PLME applicant

Sigh Okay. I know the wait is almost over, BUT I want to get an opinion outside of my circle of friends, school counselors and teachers, and family. I’m hopeful but I’m also realistic about my chances due to my stats, a lot of them do not meet the Brown standard. Alrighty, without further ado the break down of my candidacy.

My standardized tests scores are low.
SAT I: 1600 CR: 580 M:500 WR: 520
SAT II: Literature: 780 and Biology: 680
ACT: 23
GPA: 3.9
Rank: 66 out of 139 students. My school is very competitive the top fifty have above 4.0
Out of my entire high school career I have taken two AP classes. AP Human Geography and AP Psychology. Those classes were in my Freshman and Sophomore year. Last year I took Algebra 2 honors, English 3 honors and majority college classes and this year, as a Senior, I have finished all of my high school requirements and I am solely taking college classes. My school offers duel enrollment where I can take college classes for free at the same time with high school. I will list all of my courses at the end.
Major Awards: I won’t find out until April 21st. It is a community service award in my town.
EC’s:
Varsity Volleyball Captain (4 years)
SGA representative(4years)
Chess Club(1 year)
NHS(3 years), I spend most of my time knitting clothing for the homeless and creating and organizing events that raise awareness for college students who may be homeless as well as just being homeless.
CADRE (a club that is unique to my school) I tutor children that are underprivileged and are struggling with homework, class room and standardized testing (my home state is Florida) so these poor (not-speaking socioeconomically) students have to pass the FCAT in order to move onto the fourth grade. I create individualistic routines and materials for them, this will be my second year doing this. I am also involved in another program similar to this but focuses on mentoring children with reading. This is my first year. I am also a math tutor at my library.
HOSA (2years) Last year I competed in Biotechnology and place fourth and this year I just volunteered to help out.
I work at McDonald’s I have been there for eight months (it’s such a drag).
This previous summer I was involved in a program where I assembled and programmed a robotic micro suturing arm while taking a college level course on pathophysiology. Doctors from my town and internationally mentored me. I wrote a paper on my research project and presented everything oversees in France at an annual convention. I met a lot of doctors that were in my field (prospectively) which is neurosurgery. The doctors gave a lot of feed back and talked about possibly publishing my work. I did a lot of other things in Europe but it doesn’t pertain to school haha  So I would say this was studying abroad.
Right now I am in a STEM class and in the process of developing another experiment in partnership again with my local institutions. It is on the neurological processes of facial recognition and distortion, well along the lines I am still tweaking.

I believe my essays were well written I had my comp I and II professors look them over. I basically talked about finding myself and keeping my drive alive despite only having one parent (by choice). I was very honest in all of my essays and supplement essays.

I believe my recs were well written because the two professors I chose are really close to me.

I believe my interview went well, we talked for an hour in person and then over the phone. She seemed very interested in my current achievements.

Sorry for the long post but I’m almost through!

If this matters I go to a public school, I am an African American female and first generation college student. I will be close to my A.A. degree I have about 50 credit hours and you need 60. My income bracket a little under 90,000 so idk about how much aid I will receive. I am a Floridian and vegetarian <—haha I’m being facetious now. Anyway thank you for spending time reading this. I know I am probably at the bottom of the tier but what do you think my chances are of acceptance.

Sounds like you’re a strong student, but unfortunately most likely not a candidate for Brown, much less PLME. As you know, your stats are far below the average, and your class rank shows that you’re not one of the top students in your school - the vast majority of Brown accepted students were in the top 10% of their graduating class.

You sound extremely passionate and motivated, so I’m sure you’ll have some other very good college options, but unfortunately just by the numbers Brown is most likely not the school for you.

10 char
