RD Roster

I thought it’d be nice to start one up for Carelton. So I guess add your name to the list if you’re applying RD.

I figure we should know a little about each other. From Florida here, applying to 4 colleges (+1 state school, but already accepted). Carleton probably my top choice, but that shifts from day to day with Rice.

nice to meet you beothian. I applied to 11 colleges. Middlebury and Williams are my top choices (I got deferred from Midd). Carleton follows pretty close behind, though. From Wisconsin, baby! (But applying as an international. Korean)

Hi boethian and lianapark. I'm from California and I applied to 14 colleges. I know I'm crazy. Carleton is sorta in the middle of the list. Yay for Carleton!

14?!?! seriously?? Haha, and I thought 11 was a lot. Which ones did you apply to?

I can't imagine applying to that many. Too much work. I guess I sort of screwed myself by choosing the each college's own application over the common app, but oh well.

Yeah, at first (spring of my Junior year) I was like, "Well, I'm going to use the original apps to make it look better." And then one of my friends who was a Senior at the time and who had already finished the application process was like, Uhhhh...... Since they can't really discriminate you for using the common app over their own original app I just decided what the hey. But the problem with applying to so many colleges is that I rushed through a lot of them so they all kinda suck. Haha.

Ah that sucks, you missed out on Carleton's application. Really. Even though I am working on applying to schools with earlier deadlines, I only want to work on Carleton because its so cool, and the format online is really easy to work with (unlike Davidson's which is absolutely horrid).

Yeah I did miss out on Carleton's app. But the thing is, I pretty much missed out on all of the colleges that I was applying to. There is no one but myself to blame, though. dramatic sigh Ah well. Life is life, and we'll find out in April how high admissions was if they decide to accept me ANYWHERE.

Well, I'm applying to a lot of reach schools....and some I had to apply to because of my parents. Oh well, most of them were common app. My list: Carleton, Stanford, Brown, Harvard, BU, Tufts, UC Berkeley, UCSD, UCLA, Rice, Haverford, Whitman, Wesleyan, and Williams. I got two fee waivers, so I figured I'd apply to those two schools since it's free.

why carleton, you guys?

for me- small, intimate environment, in the rural area (hate the cities, heh), fee waiver

Dude, it's the free frisbee! j/k Carleton's awesome overall.

haha. definitely the free frisbee. Otherwise, it's certainly a refreshing difference from many of the New England liberal arts colleges that I'm applying to. Kind of a different "flavor" I guess. The students are amazingly friendly and the academics are extremely competitive. I'm talking too much. But hey, what can I say--it's Carleton!

From NJ here, applying to 11 schools in total but might add in a few more safeties later on. (I'm paranoid.) Although it was a gradual realization, Carleton has become one of the top on my list. I never even knew Carleton existed when my mom first told me about it and I was hesitant about applying. But yeah, I've come to really like Carleton, they have awesome study abroad programs which is very important to me. And I like the small, intimate environment though it's probably gonna take some time for me to get used to Minnesota O_O.

Did anyone have an interivew yet with Carleton? I think I'm gonna go visit sometime this month and I just wanna know what the general vibe of the interview was. (intimidating? or really laid-back?)

Best of luck to everyone!

Yeah I had an interview. It was really laid back, really nice, and I had fun overall. An admissions fellow interviews you (they're Seniors at Carleton), so if you're intimidated by admissions officers, you'll feel right at home here. I liked it more than my other ones because the interviewer is much more in your age category and can relate to you more, so you laugh a lot more and feel much more comfortable than if you were with "actual" adults. At least that's how it was for me. It's just a different flavor, you could say. More like meeting a friend than being interviewed. :)

Don't worry about it too much! A lot of interviews are pretty laid back. It'll work out and no matter what they'll get a positive vibe from you rather than a negative (unless you say something really terrible, which I'm sure you won't). Good luck!

my interview experience was a bit different. I was interviewed in NYC when some admissions people from Carleton took a trip there. I did get interviewed by an admissions officer. However, I also founfd the interview to be fairly laid back and more like a conversation. After the interview when my interviewer gave me his card I found out he was the dean of admissions!!! I am really glad I did not know that in advance or I think I would have been a lot more nervous.
