Re-doing a Class- Would colleges you apply to know?

This last semester, due to a terrible, very unpredictable teacher, I ended up with a B- in the class after finals. Because of this, I dropped the class (without penalty), and am taking the second semester through an online program. Over the summer, I plan to retake the first semester of the class. Provided I achieve an A with the new setting and over the summer, would the original grade be completely ignored? This may be a basic question, but I really have no idea.

  1. Don’t just blame the teacher. Unless nobody at all did well in the class, you need to take some responsibility as well. You will no doubt encounter more bad teachers along the road and need to find a way to do well – be it utilizing online resources, getting extra help etc. Use this as a learning experience for the future.

  2. Ask your guidance counselor how it will show up on your transcript. Nobody here will know with any certainty how your HS does things. Not sure how you can drop a class after the final. If the B- remains on the HS transcript colleges will see it and each college will handle it its own way (some schools may replace the grade, some may average the grades etc.).
