No I'm a parent, but some other school wants a big non-refundable depost from me on Monday, I'm just trying to jump-start the applicant's evaluation process in that light, there won't be hardly any time if we just wait for the decision and it comes out positive.

Besides, this is a general question that may of interest to many potential Amherst transfers, both now and in the future. I's good to have some answers for the CC permanent record.

I hope they release these soon bc Im starting to get nervous..Someone told me that they told him they wont be mailing ti mid-nextweek...but it will be christmas eve by then..

I don't know of any mid-year transfers that live with freshmen, and I've heard you can't live in freshman dorms if you're over 21. Either way, even freshmen can move out of the freshman dorms spring semester, so I don't think there's a chance of being placed there against your will. Almost all upperclassmen live in the dorms (Amherst only lets at most 50 students off campus), and most of the dorms are small enough that it's really easy to get to know the people you live with and integrate into the student body. Having some sort of activity or club certainly speeds up the process, but as long as you make an effort, it will be easy to make friends. And while a lot of the junior class studies abroad, it is usually just for a semester.

As someone who went to a small school... if you're a new face, people will notice and if you seem like a normal face :), friendships are there for the making.
