Re - online course as an EC

Hi,

I am looking to apply into top science schools (e.g. MIT). I have spotted some science-based online courses in edX and Coursera which pique my interest and I am likely to enroll for these courses. However, I am curious about one thing: how much do colleges (esp. the top colleges) regard such tough online courses? Will doing any of these courses improve my C.V.? Will it be worth the time?

Any insights into my questions will be most appreciated!

Thanks.

Going into those courses definitely shows interest and initiative, and they should be included in the college app. But I wouldn’t call them ECs.

Why not, stressedouttt? I think that is a fine place to list these. After all, it’s an activity you’re doing outside of school. That’s what the EC section is for.

Except that it’s a class, not an activity. I would list it in additional information, as it isn’t an EC.

MIT has its own application, not Common App. I think they have a section for things like this.

I also believe common app and most other apps have a section for other high schools/colleges attended. Some of these courses may apply there.
