I'm wondering if I should just apply for biochemistry instead of engineering because I don't have 'engineering ECs' like FIRST or SciOly because they don't exist in my country. (I do have a medal from grade 9 sumobots)

My story is a bit weirder than other people - I never had that "wow, building stuff is super cool" it was more like: I was very much into regular biology research. I started working at a place where they do advanced imaging stuff. To make it run, the PI constantly wrote new software, the electrical engineer basically made and remade microscopes all day and it gave the lab some really unique tools to investigate stuff on a high level. I thought it was incredible because they integrated all these fields to create tools that could give tonnes of insight.

I want to learn the discipline of biomedicalengineering because I feel like it would it prepare me to do the same as my mentor has done (I think that's how science will go in the future). I ultimately want to be a clinician scientist, NOT a biomedical engineering scientist. I like Yale because they're really good at bioimaging AND because they're amazing at neuroscience. My mentor is actually a listed trainee alumni/was a visiting Prof there.

Research is basically my biggest EC though I do many other things. Part of my work has been 'engineering a new protocol' and the entire work has done fine at science fairs/I was selected to represent my country at ISEF (though now, I think science fair is a bit dumb).

Should I just apply to Yale as a straight bio major because of this gap? Also, should the Why Yale Eng essay be in a narrative format? I can't turn it wholly into a narrative without using way too many words. I try to let people get inside my head a bit though.

Thanks!
