REA or RD?

I am applying this fall and want to apply REA… just wondering if those with more experience than I agree that this is the best course for me.

White female/public school
SAT: 1530
GPA: all A’s. 4.0 UW and 4.93 weighted.
Rank: 3
Extracurriculars: first female president of Science Olympiad, president of Interact (a service club), a research internship at Chapel Hill this summer, I’ve been volunteering at my public library since I was eight plus some mission trips and service opportunities. A couple of other clubs, but nothing as serious as SO and Interact.

I am also part of NCSSM Online, meaning I get to take cool science classes while in high school. Also, I don’t know if this affects admission but I want to do a double major in biochemistry and literature. I’ve already written my essays and I’d give them a 9-10/10.

My daughter will be entering ND in a few days and did REA last year. Based upon our experience, you certainly seem like a strong candidate and I think REA makes sense.

She had similar stats, with excellent leadership and strong STEM (including high level research like it appears you’ve had). It is very possible to do a double major like you are interested in, even if Biochem is one of your majors. i would encourage you to continue to work on your essays. Pour yourself into them and make sure they capture the essence of who you are and what you will bring to Notre Dame.

Good luck and feel free to DM me with any specific questions.

Unless you think your application would be stronger later, go ahead and apply REA.

ND says it likes to see above average applicants in the REA round. Your SAT score is right at ND’s 75th percentile for enrolled students.

You should also call/email your admissions rep. They are very open to discussing the REA/RD question with applicants, and it is a good opportunity to establish a bit of a relationship with the person who will be reading your application down the road.
