i dont know yet. I applied all RD. The reason im so mad is because my friend just got deferred and she had way better stats and extracurriculars than you. She was so crushed and i think its just not fair that you got accepted and she didnt. I mean no one thought you would make it in. you had no APs so your weighted GPA is like 2.9 and all you have done in extracurricular is sports. You didnt even take the SAT. i just dont understand what they saw in you.

i can understand why you are mad, but being deferred only means that the admissions officers need more time to review her application. I am sure that in the end, everything will work out and that she will get into northeastern university. also, although i did not take the SAT, northeastern will not favor one test over the other so it does not matter whether I took the ACT or SAT.

While btw's stats might be low, I know Northeastern is very weird about acceptances. I had a friend when I applied who had similar stats to me get flat out rejected while I got into the honors program with a scholarship. Since btw probably made it clear Northeastern was his number 1 choice, that would be a factor. If your friend had really good stats and Northeastern knew she was just using it as a safety, that would give them reason to defer her. If she really wanted to go to Northeastern, she would accept the spring semester offer. The kid who got flat out rejected got into BC and NYU...I guess that's just how it works.

thank you for making that very valid point because with a lot of colleges, it is true that they may take a kid with lower stats who has shown an interest over someone else with higher stats who may be using it as a safety

^While I believe that some colleges do that, I totally disagree with it.

Also, the arguing between you guys made me laugh.

while i have to admit i did not think you would get in either, i have to say congrats.
The admissions office obviously saw something in you worth giving a shot, even though you did not have the best grades in high school.

I hope everything works out for you bro and don't worry about these people hating on you its only an online forum...

I agree. Good luck and hopefully you can show that you deserved the admission.

What do you guys think of my chances to Northeastern?

29 ACT
1220 SAT

Transferred from a poor public school to private boarding school, Indian Springs, thus i'm unsure of my gpa.

So, my gpa is either >3.5 with all my honors classes at public school, or roughly 3.0 if my old grades don't get weighed.

I'm applying regular decision as an architecture major, and wondering if i could receive merit scholarship?
I've been an assistant server at a nice restaurant and bike retailer/mechanic.

my sat is actually 1260/1820

i think that you have a good chance of getting in, i mean, i got in and my stats were lower

Congratulations , but you may want to edit and remove your name. :)
You don't have to prove yourself to anyone !

hey btw3006 i have almost exact same stats and had a 3.5 for junior yr as well. Unfortunately I applied RD. Do you think sending a letter letting them know they are my first choice will help me? Thanks.

that's annoying that you got in because I'm a better applicant in basically every category and I got deferred. It's my second choice and I visited too. I also applied to the business school.

Pukey: What a tactful thing to say. You should know better than to say something like how you think it's "annoying that you got in because I'm a better applicant in basically every category". Perhaps he was a better applicant as far as personality?

the only personality they can really get out of an application is the essay, EC's and recommendations. Unless he had an amazing Essay that completely changed his application than I guess that's possible but I know that my essay was really good. I have a lot of volunteer work with nationally known organizations too. I honestly doubt it was personality unless he had an interview with them.

Maybe Northeastern perceives you to be a bit off the arrogance scale and in need of a touch of humility to accept you EA.

jeffreycone, you don't know me so you can't judge me at all. I will admit that my initial post was written in a hostile manner which I didn't really intend it to be, but it was mainly because I was blown away that he got in. Some schools pick people who are below average that have a unique quality to their app. because they feel that they would go because the school is a bit of a reach. And when I said "better in basically category" it was meant to be perceived as my stats and EC's are better, not essay and other things. Congrats to him for getting in because obviously he has a unique quality. Also jeffreycone you are quite ignorant for calling me arrogant.

Your argument is lame at best but I'll give you a pass 'cause you're young and, well....young!
I agree, you're right...I don't know you well but like admissions counselors at major American universities, I can only form my opinion based on what you expressed in what I believe to be insensitive and yes, ignorant, comments about the qualifications of another person we all know less than nothing about.
I wish you all the best- I'm certain you will do well in all your future endeavors. Just try to be kind along the way. One day you'll understand.

I can honestly say that my initial post wasn't worded properly and I just intended to show my frustration, but I'm sure you would understand if you saw someone get into a school you wanted to go to when they clearly had worse stats then you but as you and I know, the admissions process' isn't all about stats.

To Hurley
Stop being a hater
Better luck next year
