Prompt 1: Describe the world you come from - for example, your family, community or school - and tell us how your world has shaped your dreams and aspirations...

Every two years I take a family to the Philippines during the summer. We stay mostly at my Grandpa’s house in Manila while we are there. During these trips, I always seem to notice how successful my family. One cousin of mine is a doctor, my aunt owns her own travel agency, and my other aunt owns an ice plant. I always thought to myself that I don’t want to be the one who won’t be successful in the family and that I should have live a successful life like them. When the vacation is over, we go back to our daily routine lives. I also start to think what I want to be when I grow up and I always seem to end up looking towards my dad’s life. My dad is a good family man. He is liked by his peers, he is hardworking, and a good provider for the family. He is a Medical Radiologic Technologist in the hospital. I remember when he took an x-ray of my ankle cause of an accident that happened to me. I saw him give the x- ray to another person who seemed to be telling him about my ankle. I found out later on that my dad’s job is to take x-rays and the person he gave the x-ray to is the radiologist. He told me that they are the ones who interpret the x-rays and that they make more money than he does. Then that’s when I knew what I wanted to be, a Radiologist. I researched this job looking for more information about it and thought to myself, “Yes this is it! I can see myself being a Radiologist in the future.” My dad knew I was interested in this, so he gave me some books about the field. I gained insightful information that seems interesting to me. When my friends ask what I wanted to be when I grow up I tell them that I want to be a Radiologist. It makes me happy to tell them that because they don’t know what that job is. This job has become my dream job ever since that day my dad x-rayed me. This dream of mine to become a radiologist will make me be like my father who is hard working and a good provider for the family and it will also relieve me that I will be successful, just like my family in the Philippines. If I never got that x-ray I would probably be thinking about my future job. The family trips is a blessing because without them, I would probably have never notice how successful my family is. They are the ones that got me thinking and my dad is the one who helped me dream job. Together, they both helped me to create my dream which is to become a radiologist and be successful in the future.
