Hi, I'm a junior at University High School, one of the top-ranked public high schools around the nation. I just wanted some opinion or advice on what schools I should look to apply to and/or if there is anything I should do to help make my resume more attractive. Thanks!

Due to the fact that the academic courses here are extremely rigorous, I've managed to obtained only mediocre scores. I have around a 3.7 weighted, 3.5 non weighted (2 C's my first semester of sophomore year due to the fact that I had to spend most of my energy taking care of my mother who was diagnosed with breast cancer. (I managed to pull those classes up to an A- and a B the next semester). I scored a pretty decent score on my SATs (2280), SAT2s (Math-800, Chinese-800), and my AP Exam (APUSH-5). I played basketball and wrestled my first two years. I've been part of student council for the past 3 years, and hope to be senior class president next year. I'm also been part of IMPACT, a school mentoring program for incoming freshmen the past two years. I'm the president of Rooftop Mentors, a club that tutors elementary kids after school for free. In addition, I'm Vice-President for Kiwins Club, co-treasurer for Key Club, and secretary for Save Darfur! I also play for the school symphonic orchestra as the assistant principal violist.

Aside from school, I'm the principal violist of an outside orchestra, participated in All Southern, All State, and All National Orchestras since freshman year. Last summer I went to the Beijing Olympics after an invitation by the Chinese government to perform alongside an orchestra. I've traveled to Argentina as well as Brazil teaching children how to play a musical instrument. I've also interned at a law firm and volunteer for the mayor. This summer, I'm going back to Taiwan to teach English.

I really hope to get into UCLA/UCBerkerly or any schools around or above that level. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for leaving any positive feedback. Thanks again!

I think you have a good shot for schools in that area.
My brother had a gpa of about 3.69 UW and an SAT of 2290 and he got into Cornell with no significant hooks or EC’s. Your GPA should be around there (obviously being affected by the whole cancer thing) and coleges wil probably understand. Also, your EC’s are much better than his, so you definitely have a fighting chance at that level.

Chance me back?

Definitely write about that situation regarding your mother and her breast cancer in your college essay, or discuss it in an interview.
