There are so many threads on here asking for people to read essays. I've read a couple peoples essays now, and I just had a question about reading them. When people post asking for help do they really want help? If I have a few suggestions should I give them, or are people really just asking for compliments?
Now I don't mean completely tearing as essay apart, but if the essay is really good except for one or two things, is it good to mention it or not? The essays I've read, I've complimented many things in, but if I make any suggestion it seems like the writer doesn't really want them.
So if you don't want help why post asking for it? What is it people are looking for when they ask for essay readers?

Confirmation of their awesomeness, usually.
