REALISM for candidates

Actually alot of TIs start as SrA however most don't. The special duty is a huge career boost for people in career fields like mine that are extremely competitive because of small size. The bigger mentality behind being a TI, at least for the upper ranks, is that they want to make a direct impact on the training of their replacements.

As to the differences I can personnally atest to how different they are. Army is very physical, Air Force is more mental, and here at the Academy (at lest the prep basic which was cadet run) is more of a game. By calling it a game I don't mean it is meant to be fun but the mind tricks that they try and play are very different from a basic military training environment - and for good reason; the important thing to learn here is how to be a follower whereas in regular military basic the goal is to keep you alive.

I worked with a SrA TI this summer. She was one of the last SrA TIs at Lackland, but I heard they were bringing back SrA TIs in the near future. (They had stopped accepting SrA for the slots, for a while.)

BMT is very different from BCT. The atmosphere is different. One TI vs. 5-8 Cadets makes a large difference. Although, basic is basic in some respects. The material covered is VERY similar, just the manner in which it is presented and the emphasis varies between the two.

airforce16: was she someone in 2011 who was in 16 last year? is so she didn't write most of them, but copied them too

they were written before 2011's time

Yea I had seen most of them before, she just twisted them around a bit to fit our class and our awesome basic experience...

Nah shes listed as the creator of the group, said she got most of them from other facebook groups such as the USAFA Class of 2011 which lists some of those... ;)

got it. they came from the oringial "You know you're a 4 dig if..." group created by some people in 2010

A pretty random question that has no relevance to the current discussion...

Do the notebooks issued to cadets have a webcam? I was just thinking what a boost it would be to be able to video Skype friends and family.

no, they don't.

Skype is also blocked, so it's a moot point really.

Which websites are blocked?

Haha, darn. Pending a no, I was next going to ask if webcams that come on external monitors would be allowed. However, since it seems as though there would be no use for one, that question doesn't really matter.

Thanks!

I have a few questions. I am taking AP European History, Chemistry and Statistics. Which classes which I will be able to validate if I get a 5 on all of these? Also, If I go on to a community college for a year or join the Air Force what other classes can I validate? Are there a set list of courses that are up for validation? Lastly, which specific websites are blocked ?

Here is a link to the academy admissions page that has what you are looking for, but this thread is SO off topic now, oh well.

Lastly, which specific websites are blocked?

Anything that you would suspect might be blocked likely is.

except youtube.

which we as 4 degs would only think of using for educational purposes...

and of course the definition of "educational purposes" varies from 4 dig to 4 dig... ;)

back to realism...

the weather here sucks. in basic, you'll have a thunderstorm and lightning warning every single afternoon, which is great in jack's valley.

just the other day, it was warm. now it's snowy and windy and aaaahhhh outside... geez. be prepared to get rocked by the weather.

let the dark ages commence!

Sounds like Nebraska weather... except for the Dark part

it got dark at like 3:30 (or 1530 for you military types) today. It was rather depressing. But it wasn't that dark. Just dark enough to be depressing.

I actually like it better here when it's dark. I don't know why. One Sat. morning near the beginning of the school year, I went to breakfast at 5:30 and the sun was rising, but the fountain lights were on, and the lights for the chapel. It was beautiful! not that I was gazing or anything!
