Apply to STEM related majors you will get in everywhere with your URM status + female in STEM factor you would become a dreamboat for diversity basically.
STEM- Science Technology Engineering Mathematics these majors are usually impacted by males and crazy nut schools still want to maintain a 50-50 so they easily accept females.
Most of the schools on the OP’s list do not admit by major, although it couldn’t hurt for her to stress her interest in science. They are all reaches, but none are necessarily out of reach. You should identify some good safe and match schools, and then go ahead and reach high. I’m presuming that you live in the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic, and so your state flagship, Pitt, Temple, BU, Fordham, and American would all work; Howard would definitely accept you, also. There’s no harm in re-taking the SAT once, and trying the ACT. Your current score is good, and does not eliminate you from consideration. If your score goes down, then you can work with what you have. If it goes up, that’s even better. Good luck!
I literally have the same stats as you (except I am white). I know my odds are pretty low at most of these schools, but I don’t know how much being African-American helps
Being African American and female will help a bit since you offer a lot of diversity. I say you should get into most with some exceptions of maybe Harvard, Columbia, and maybe Upenn.
Harvard and Columbia maaaay be sicing it but otherwise you have pretty good chances. Although the ECs could be stronger ( maybe a few sports in there?)
You’ve been nicely involved, have sought outside opps, challenged yourself, and done well. Learn how those schools differ, in values, opportunities and what they like to see in an app. Use the Common App and supp questions to your advantage. Do that leg work, consider your approach and follow the advice about essays and etceteras. None of those schools is easy to label a match for anyone. Adcoms will look at the transcript, not just overall GPA. You might want to consider adding some community service. But…
Thanks for all the suggestions! Working on my supplements and also applying to more safety schools. Hope also the recent national merit semifinalist from a competitive state helps. Crossing my fingers!
