I was waitlisted today... do I have a chance or should I not get my hopes up?
Also, I'll actually be there in two weeks, would it help if I talked to someone in person?

help ASAP
congrats to everyone who was accepted :)

Being waitlisted inherently means that you DO have a chance - how much of a chance is impossible to say. That being said, with these situations, it is usually better to not get your hopes up. That way, in the case that you are admitted, you will be pleasantly surprised.

Talking to someone in person should definitely help your chances, just as long as it is the right person. It is also possible that colleges will be taking many people off the waitlists this year due to families not being able to afford college because the economy. Again, I wouldn't get your hopes up, but it is something worth thinking about.

Apparently last year no one was taken off the wait list. My D is wait listed also.

I was waitlisted as well...which doesn't really make sense to me. I felt like I definitely had good enough scores to get in and was actually expecting to get some sort of scholarship. I got into some harder to get into scores, but I still was pretty excited to hear from Pitzer...I'm kind of disappointed.
How does being on the wait list work? Do we have to go there if we get accepted later on? Don't most schools want your decision by May 1st?

On the return card there is the choice to stay on the Wait List until May 15, June 1, or July 1. If they contact you with a spot you have 24 hours to decide if you want the spot. Obviously, May 1 is the general response date for all schools, so you'd have to lose whatever deposit you had placed at another school in order to then change your mind and attend Pitzer.

I wondered how this would affect a FA decision, I mean it looks like there'd be no time or opportunity to appeal, you'd have to take whatever they offered ... if anything. I was told by Pitzer FA that for the last 2 years, no FA applicants have come off the wait list. Not very encouraging. :(

Ah I see...I guess I'll just not put myself on the wait list if no one gets accepted anyways. I have other colleges I loved, but I am really sad that I can't have this be a candidate.
