My school has different math tracks based on your math proficiency and I’m not slated to take AP Calculus senior year. However, on Tech’s website they said that 94% of 2014’s class took ap calc. I’m a little worried that not taking it will negatively impact admissions…does anyone know if it will?
If you have completed precalculus/trigonometry by 11th grade, then the expectation if you will be studying a math-heavy subject (which most GT applicants will be) is that you will continue on to calculus in 12th grade, if offered to you.
If, however, your middle school math placement put you on a track to have precalculus/trigonometry in 12th grade, then that is what you can reasonably be expected to complete in high school. GT’s curricula assume that the student starts in calculus 1, so having high school calculus is just a bonus if you do well enough on the AP test to start in a higher math course, but is not required.
Thank you!
