Reality Check?

My friend is asking for my advcie on college selections, but honestly i dont know whether his list of colleges is realistiic or not.

Stats: 3.3 GPA, 2170 SAT

List:
Cornell
Dartmouth
Rice
WUSTL
UCLA
Reed
UChicago
U Washington
uc san diego
U michigan

his extracurriculars are good but nothing spectacular. is it time for me to tell him that maybe he should start looking at some other colleges?

edit: also, it might be worth mentionin that our school doesn't weight gpas and about 3/4 of his classes since 9th grade have been honors or AP. would that help him at all?

thanks,
legion

dartmouth, rice, wustl, cornell, ucla, uchicago, ....

... 3.3 gpa.

Is he instate for any of those state schools? And also, tell him to find a safety school.

If he's in-state for any of the publics, they might be high matches; otherwise, every single school is a reach. I ditto Bgibbs.

bump 10char

Having UCSD and Chicago on the same list is a bit... surreal?

What are his ec's? Personal distinctions? His lists looks like quite a stretch.

Those are all reaches.

Isn't a 3.3 a low A?

^ Lol. A 3.3 amounts to making twice as many Bs as As.

3.3 is a low gpa for those schools. his sat scores are pretty good, but for ivies it's usually better to have a 2200+ It might be able to tell him to have so me safety schools. I have a friend who's the same way, low freshman and sophomore gpa and a 1790 SAT score. But he's still convinced he's going to get in NYU and Colombia...

wow 3.3 gpa plus that killer SAT score wont get you in at Rice.
