OK - I don't understand why I test so poorly. I kept a perfect A+ in Honors Algebra II this year (for first semester...now my midterm screwed my grade so now I have a B+) but my PSAT score was a 490. WHAT!?

I also took the SAT in 7th grade and I got a 530. My PSAT as a sophomore was a 490. 5 months after I took the PSAT, I took the SAT and went back to my 7th grade score, 530.

I don't get it. I'm in advanced math and do moderately well. My other scores are high. Why am I getting such dismal math scores?

Algebra II isn’t advanced math…

No, I mean Honors Algebra II puts me on the advanced track, course-wise. At my school, you either do college prep math, or honors track. I’m in the honors track.

Okay, so this is what you have to do. You have to go buy that big blue book that collegeboard sells. It has eight full practice tests. Yeah, they’re not exactly fun, but they will definitely help.

Now do the math sections for one of the practice tests. Time yourself while you complete them. Then see what type of questions you are getting wrong. Practice those types of problems.

It’s all practice, and I’m proof of it. My math score went from a 560 on a practice SAT to a 620 to a 710 on the real SAT.

I’m going to study a bit more and it might go up even further.

Why are you missing questions? If you don’t know how to do them or run out of time, keep practicing and practicing a lot. If you keep making stupid mistakes, learn how to check your answers better.
