Last year I took the psat as a freshman and I got a 590 on the math portion of it. This just seemed crazy because I am the top of my class in advanced math. I was not aware that I would take the psat till a week before the exam, so maybe that has something to do with it. I just took another practice and I got a 660. Is this an acceptable improvement? And if I practice for the entire year, is it possible to bring it up to a 750?

Had you taken Algebra II at the time?

FWIW, I got a 580 on the math part of the first SAT I took (freshman year) and a 750 on the second one in my junior year. It’s mostly because I learned more math during that time…I didn’t do that much practice.

I went up from 68 on the PSAT to 770 on the SAT by watching “RadicalPrep”'s videos on youtube. Look em up, they put everything really simply and have good practice problems. First watch the tutorials.

I’ve only done the math practice so far and am yet to miss a problem, because it’s all easy math and my math aptitude is off the charts high, I just suck in Hard math classes like Pre Calc Honors.

Math is my best subject and I got a 59 on the PSAT Junior year. I took the SAT in January of Junior year and got 750. I was in Precalc. It may have been a fluke. Maybe you were sick.

I was always way ahead of the rest of my year in math, but math tended to be my lowest score on these type of standardized tests. I eventually figured out that it was because I was being tested on stuff I had learned years previously and forgotten in the meantime. Spend some time brushing up on the basics. That helped for me.

Omg, to yayitsme123, THANK YOU FOR SUGGESTING THAT WEBSITE. IT IS SO GREAT.

Anyone know how I can improve on the CR part? I can get 800s in the math and low/mid 700s in writing, but I’ve never gotten over a 700 on CR. ): It’s not really the vocab section, it’s mainly the comprehension…I’m still a sophomore so I guess I have time to improve, but I really want to do well on PSATs this year and junior year.

I went from a 54 sophomore year to a 76 junior year. I just did a bit of practice. Also, a calm mind will do you wonders. Sophomore year, I FREAKED out. Junior year, I was much less stressed, ironically, since that’s the year it actually counts.
