So up until recently I’ve been doing fairly well trying to maintain a 3.7+ GPA for transfer at my community college. I’ve just finished my first year here and I’m currently taking summer courses in Economics and Calculus and I plan to apply to my schools(Cal, UCSD, UCSB, UCI) this fall, however I became caught up in a funk in my Calculus class and will most likely end up with a C in the course which would drop my GPA to a 3.5 instead of raising it to a 3.81 had I gotten an A and not been so foolish in becoming comfortable in the class. I’m now faced with the decision whether to apply with this possible 3.5 or to re-take Calculus again for a better grade, but delaying me from transferring possibly 1-2 years. I can still TAG to UCI which after getting some advice from some close friends seems like the best option at the moment I honestly have no idea what to do. Perfect opportunity that I blew up and now its dragging me down, if anyone could give me their honest opinion/suggestion on what they think would be best for me please let me know at this moment I need all the advice I can get. Also my major is Computer Science and I am well aware it is very impacted within the schools I’m trying to apply to which is why I’m so hesitant on just taking the C in Calculus. Thank you honestly to anyone who reply’s to this message.
You will probably not be allowed to reenroll in Calc because you cannot retake a class that you received a C or above. You should TAG to UCI if you meet all the requirements. You could have withdrawn but it would have set you back for the rest of the math series. Go to http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/ and ask there.
First of all I would like to Thank you for your response, I have not fully completed Calc just yet as my final is approaching soon and I have calculated my grade with every possibility and as its approaches it looks more and more like a C, so I should I have updated my initial post asking if I should take the C or rather not pass the course and then re-take it for a better grade. Thank you also for your suggestion on posting it to the other page as I will surely do that and yes I absolutely agree with you that without Calc I would be set back in the rest of my math series thus delaying my transfer, I am also planning on speaking with a counselor to get their opinion, but currently all the advice I’m receiving is leaning towards just moving on with the C in Calc and seeing what happens.
You can take the C and then do really well in the rest of your math courses. Then you won’t be behind. Good luck!
