Essay - I plan on writing about how my GPA is low due to a medical illness i had causing depression. After finding a donor, I decided I wanted to become a doctor and worked hard for SAT and such.

OK SOOO, I know my GPA is really low and am not sure how much good SAT,good essay, good EC's would make up for it..but I just want to know what "kind" of school I should apply to. ( As far as selectivity goes)
What other UC's am i somewhat qualified for?

Also Im out-of-state..would that be a negative factor in admissions???

Work on your GPA, but your stats are really good otherwise. :) Don't worry.

Thanks yall, just wondering if either of yall go to UC Riverside. If so, whats it like? The people, the city, the lifestyle?

I used to work at UCR and it is a typical suburban campus with ample services available. I don't know about the campus nightlife as I left town by 530 every day :-) The campus is completely walkable although there are some very steep hills depending on where you are going. The library is dated, but there is a very nice science library and numerous new buildings with additional buildings in-progress. There is wireless Internet available throughout the entire campus (spotty in some areas) and there is a new commons with a couple of dining options. It is a long drive between the campus and shopping/dining options aside from a few places clustered near the campus.

A positive thing about the campus is that it has a nice botanical garden, numerous experimental citrus orchards, and is nestled below Box Springs Mountain. Occasionally I would encounter coyotes, a bobcat, and rattlesnakes when walking between my office and the parking lot 13 so it is definitely a more natural setting than some of the other campuses.

The city of Riverside isn't anything special (in my opinion) and it can get extremely hot in the summer since it is located in a desert climate. There is a good mix of people from my own observations, but I wasn't going around campus or the city socializing so I really can't comment on the people.

Ultimately, a campus tour and a drive around the city are the best way to decide whether it is what you are looking for.
