Okay so I just finished my prep year at Exeter and I love it and classes are amazing and all of that. But my parents weren't completely happy with my grades so I will not be attending next year. I was wondering if I did bring up my grades and show that I could actually put some effort into things that I would be able to apply again for upper year. Would I be able to do that and what would the chances of me getting in be?

Please ask your guidance counselor at Exeter. Also ask a couple of your favorite teachers about this.

Bouncing back and forth from schools sounds like a bad idea.

What, were you like a straight A student and now you got a few C
s and a D? As long as you
re not failing, stick with the plan and prove to your parents that it`s not a waist of money to continue. Exeter would not have admitted you if they didnt think you could do the work. You said you love the school. Study more. Make it work. Good luck

Been there done that. The first “transition” year was rough, but I stuck it out, graduated a semester early and had a pretty high GPA.

If your parents are pushing for you to leave, it’s a bad idea. Yes - talk to admissions and the counselors about taking a leave, but I’ve not really heard of anyone coming back in once they’ve left unless it was for a reason such as illness.

Unless you are flunking out, things get better with time.

(Parents often put too much pressure on kids about grades and course selection. A “D” at Exeter is like an A+ at a public school).

Is there someone at the school who can advocate for you and let your parents know that your prep year isn’t going to keep you from going to college?
