REAPPLYING: Submit the same essay?!

Hi!

This year, I'm reapplying to 2 schools I didn't get in last year. Should I write a new essay, or can I submit the same essay as last year? I know this sounds lazy, but last year's essay was representing me and reallly showed what I'm about.

Please, give me some advice on this!

Since they rejected you before, I think you’d be better served by sending a different essay. Sending the same essay would just flag admissions officers that they’d rejected you before. In addition, presumably you should have changed in some kind of positive way since you applied last year, so a new essay should reflect you better than the old one.

From what I’ve seen on CC, odds are against you when it comes to being accepted at colleges that previously rejected you. I’ve seen students here who were accepted at peer institutions to the ones that rejected them the year earlier, but the students still were rejected again by the ones that had rejected them.

Northstarmon is right about the rejection and reapplication process, it rarely ever works. Using the same essay has about a 0% chance of working. Sorry. Unless they changed their admissions council and have new eyes looking at your essay, chances are that they’ll find the same reasons not to accept you again. Show your growth over the year AND if you’re using the common app, explain in the additional info section just WHY you decided to apply again and show your love for the college. Good luck.

Thanks! Well, 2 colleges put me on the waiting list. I visited campus and met some admission officers who recommended me to reapply (but they couldn’t assure me of anything, obviously). The other one invited me for an interview, which I had to decline because I was living abroad at that time. It just felt like I didn’t give it my all, you know? But yeah, I’m afraid it won’t work out, but trying is harmless right?

Hmm, let’s just work on my new essay, then!
