Reasonable Evaluation?

I’ll be honest, I’ve looked at the marketing spiel, and I like the look of the place. I’m interested in pursuing a biomed degree at BU, but wanted to do some research past the basics (stats, tuition, campus, etc). So, I rounded up the usual suspects and saw what review sites had to say, and I’ve come away largely disappointed. What isn’t obviously a marketing employee or someone who didn’t have the presence of mind to review the place in their review (“I like BU because it’s a great school.”), is always some kind of vitriolic, bitter freshman or a jaded, apathetic junior. I’m finding it difficult to synthesize a semi-accurate opinion of the place thanks to the wildly conflicting views, and would greatly appreciate some commentary from current students who don’t worship the place as some kind of heaven on earth, but also don’t take offense at its existence.

Would anyone be willing to help a confused, sleep-deprived high school senior out?

Most of those forums attract the bitter student who flunked out or was not admitted.

Read through the various threads her on the BU forum. Some current students and recent alumni write balanced evaluations. Best way is to visit campus and talk to random students.

If you are expecting a school a notch below MIT, you will be disappointed. But BU offers a lot more than the typical state flagship.

If I had to use an automobile analogy, I would say BU is a Lincoln, where MIT is a Lexus or a Mercedes. It is a fine institution whose perceived value is increased by being in Boston.
