Reasons to keep College Syllabus

Save your syllabus for all college classes. If you transfer to another college they may help you get credit/ My son in transferring to a four year school from CC. The four year school told him that for classes that they don't have a corresponding course for, if he gives them the syllabus for the class they may give him more credit.

One school I applied to wanted syllabi for every single course as well as photocopies of the table of contents for every textbook. Doing that for 20+ courses would have been a real PITA. Luckily I was accepted to a better school which only wanted to see a couple of syllabi.

Vandy requires a syllabus from each transferable college course in order to earn credit.

Oh man:/

Thanks for starting this thread!!

Wish we had known this. My son through out his and know he is scrambling trying to get a hold of them from other sources.

If i had a school that was such a pita that they wanted me to give them syllabi from each course i had taken i would find a new school. The registrar can easily look up this info in the uniform course description provided by all colleges to their accrediting body. Any college that would not do this is not worth much imo.

The devil is in the details. To ascertain whether or not two courses that look alike on paper really are alike, it is advisable to check the textbook and syllabus. In cases where there is no precise correspondence between courses, this information is absolutely invaluable. Students who know that they will be transferring are well advised to save every single piece of work that they did for a course.

Fortunately my sons adviser at the CC he attended was able to get almost all the syllabus he needed emailed to him. Once the 4 year college reviewed these they gave him the credits.
