i believe it i remember that when i visited the freshmen dorms were about a mile away from the engineering bulidings (where i am applying, don't know how far to other schools) so a mile in the cold could be brutal, btw how far away is the library from the freshmen dorms

The frosh dorms are just separated from the main campus by a gorge. The library (Uris, the main one with the clocktower) is at the far end of Arts quad, which is just over the gorge from the frosh dorms. it is not far at all. At the very least, there are TCAT buses every ten minutes on norht camous that will take you anywhere you want to go on campus, including engineering quad, which i admit is a bit far a walk from north.

They didn’t accept Minkoff

Why do people have to find faults in someone else when they fail? Cornell doesn’t suck. What were you thinking when you applied to such a competitive university? Everyone’s chances are low. I was ready to be rejected but I was not. I am sorry for everyone who got deferred/rejected. I fell in love with all of you guys here on CC. I wish everyone could be accepted because you are all very good and smart guys. Alas, doesn’t always happen the way we want it.

To address the snow issue: It doesn’t snow that much. Sure, there are storms, but Syracuse got 41 inches, Cornell in the past 11 days has had less than 2?

What’s unfortunate about Cornell is:

The people here.

if it’s so hard to get As … how are we (those who are/will be accepted) going to go to good graduate schools?
Do they know that Cornell is a hard school?
Or do they just look at your gpa?

Why did you guys bring back a 6 year old topic, lmao.

this is a depressing thread

@Kaziurra what do u mean by ‘people here’ im going to Cornell next year and want to get an idea of what im going into. Any advice?

Cornell is a piece of ****. The adcoms are constantly smoking crack and obviously cannot see talent and potential in Russian saxaphone playing, hockey boiis. What is this world coming to.

Someone’s feeling sore :o

Is Cornell really that difficult compared to the other Ivies, because I quite frankly DETEST ridiculous grading systems?

For those posting about how Cornell stinks, I really hope you didn’t get in, and will not be in Ithaca the upcoming year. I honestly love it here, and yes the workload is tough, and yes the winter is cold.

But you get used to it. You work your butt off, and you get tons of layers for winter. I’m from Florida. I got used to the cold. And I’m in engineering, and in some of my classes, yes I’m obtaining C’s. But regardless of all of this, I would not trade my time at Cornell for any other school.

I saw a poster the other day in Day Hall.
It said 'Elite, but not Elitist"
so true

Small town. A lot of fraternities.

I’m actually amused that the first thing you would choose to console yourself in the eventuality of not getting in is:

We’re from Texas and My son is spending a year in Prep school in CT just to get a “taste” of the east coast climate prior to moving on to Cornell, Dartmouth, Columbia, or Williams College for the Fall 2011 school year. For him and us (his parents), nothing matters except him being able to get into one of 'em… The other issues are minor in comparison to the education being offered, just sayin.

The hell with the bad things about cornell i just want to get in!!! I"ll be happy with a 3.0 gpa from cornell!!!

OMG this post is from 2004. I think I was graduating from elementary school at this time. Now I’m graduating high school lol

What amazes me is that no one was interested in this topic between 2004 and 2010.

As a current Cornell student, I can say a few of these statements in the thread are just total nonsense.

In my own opinion, there are a few things I dislike. Overall, I really love it here, but here we go:
- Competitiveness - I don’t mean the academic community is competitive. Everyone (well MOST) I’ve met is willing to help each other, but it’s just that it’s tough to get jobs / opportunities here. For my first job, I had to do 5 applications before I finally got hired. The same goes for all the other good opportunities available on campus.
- Cliqueness - I have to admit, Cornell really isn’t a community-like school. At least, it’s just my opinion
- Workload - Some intro classes here are just designed to make you suffer as much as possible. Maybe they’re just trying to weed people out, but common classes could be the premed classes or maybe the intro engineering classes.
