Reassuring Parents

I am a second semester college freshman who made less than a 2.5 my first semester. I want to do well in college and help show my parents that I can survive in the real world. Both of my parents had a rough time in college;my dad dropped out and didn't get his degree until my senior year of high school; my mother graduated college then got her masters' when I was eight.
I want to reassure my parents that I can do well in college and not wait like my dad did. I love both of my parents and it kills me to disappoint them. How can I reassure them that I will do well in college and in real life?

The person you most need to reassure is yourself. Frankly, a 2.5 first semester average isn’t a bad way to start college. College usually is the first time students have had to be so independent, so usually first semester grades are their worst ones.

Figure out why you didn’t get higher grades. Did you procrastinate with reading assignments and then try to learn everything the last minute before exams? Did you skip class? When you didn’t understand the material, did you talk to the professor during office hours?
