I emailed a professor for a letter of rec, and he told me to have my TA write the letter and he would endorse it. I emailed my TA over 2 weeks ago and have not gotten a response. I found out from another TA that my TA no longer works in the same lab, but apparently she still uses the same email address. Should I try emailing my TA again?? Or should I email the professor and let him know I can't get a hold of my TA?? This professor is sort of the type that "doesn't have time for undergrads," so that's why I am hesitant to contact him again. Could this just be my TAs way of turning down my request?

Pick up the phone. Call your TA. Talk to her in person. This is not something to leave to email.

Good luck.

You may want to consider providing your TA with a resume or a highlights of things about you to include in a letter. Many TAs don't have much experience writing letters of recommendation, so any help you can give them, short of writing the letter yourself, would be a plus.

This sucks. Yeah, this is the way that a professor indicates that he doesn't want to go to bat for you. A letter of recommendation from the perspective of a TA will be just that. Hopefully your other recs are from professors he aren't shmucks.

Then get a different LOR if your TA still doesn't respond or doesn't really seem thrill to help.
