hey..quick question:
I am currently taking an Arabic course at a local college. The teacher of this course is a georgetown alumni and I was wondering whether I should ask him, at the end of the session, for a reccomendation (hoping I do good in the course) letter. Will his letter have any weight on admissions and such?

As well, my grandfather, who is a jesuit, has a jesuit friend who graduated from georgetown university. I will be sitting with him for dinner and such and im sure, if he likes me or how I present mysel, he might write me a reccomendation letter or something along that sort...I think he also knows that he is coming for dinner so that he can meet me and get to know me better.

Anyway, so...how much weight would these letters of reccomendation have on admissions? By the way, I'm not depending on these letters or connections in order to get in, I have good stats and I'm in the top 10 of my class. Anyway, thanks for any input.

bump....bump...bump

first learn how to spell recommendation

yes i saw that, thanks though.

The grandfather friend thing is irrelevant and can do nothing for you. The professor though could be a good one, depending on how well he knows you, etc. I would say shoot for that one and not even bother with the other one.

Judging by your spelling of "recommendation", you're going to need all the help you can get.

Rec Letters mean nothing unless the people are big movers and shakers or have an affiliation with the university or are very close with somebody who works there and could influence the process. A random alum doesn't mean much at all, unless they happen to be one your parents ... and then you'd be a legacy.

how is your grandfather a jesuit??? wouldnt that mean he is a preist, catholic presits generally dont have kids.

Stevie, typos happen man, you don't really have to be a prick about it.

I also believe that if the grandfather is divorced for a certain time, they can become Jesuits. I'm not sure though.

yes, that is true about the priesthood for jesuits, but is extremeley rare in the catholic church...???
