Does Georgetown like having personal recs from people of importance? For instance, my father's best friend is the ambassador to the UN in geneva. If I had a rec from him, would it hold any clout in the admissions process at gtown?

I don't know, but I don't think you would want a real impersonal reccomendation letter. If if the person knows you really well than, I would go ahead and use it, but if not than I would think twice because then it becomes "my daddy knows him."

Thanks, that's what I thought. I just wanted confirmation.

hmm. I'll be applying as a transfer student and I'm worried because I didn't really know any of my profs (part of the reason why I'm leaving is that I don't think that interaction between profs and students is promoted at all) so I don't think that rec will be very good or my dean's report and I may have the opportunities to get a recommendation letter from a high ranking alumnus who I don't really know....would this hurt? Because this is one part of my application I'm quite worried about. I think I could get a great rec. from the job I'm currently working at in addition.
